Honda Civic - ICE upgrade advice

Dear all
I have a Honda Civic and was looking at options to do a cost-effective upgrade to the ICE. I have read many threads but they are all way above my budget. My budget is max 10K. Can the gurus suggest? Will changing the front speakers alone to a good set of components help? Also will it help if I upgrade the rear speakers to better co-axials/triaxials. If yes, can you give some suggestions and the right place in Bangalore for getting this done?

One request, I don't want to extend the budget from 10K to 1.5 Lakhs

i am no ICE guru, but that's a pretty low budget for a car like civic, i too started off with a budget of 25k and now it has exceeded 50k. but, anyways, in 10k you should first get a good set of 6.5" components for the front (try jbl or hertz deici) and 6.5"coaxials for the rear, again JBL or hertz. you would be pretty satisfied with this upgrade. but, one thing for sure the stock HU wouldn't do justice to the upagraded speakers without an amp.

I understand 10K is a low budget but since this is a company car, I do not want to spend more on this. How is the Blaupunkt Velocity Series?

for 10K you can get 4 coax speakers or a pair of good components.

Blau's Velocity is not the same as they were 4-5 years ago. If you are only interested in a pair of components I would consider comps from Infinity, Hertz Energy, Illusion, etc... instead.

Your best bet would be a good pair of components up front. Nothing more that can be done in 10K, to be very honest.

I would say Nil since it can't be fitted in any other car.

Thanks Vikram, would this upgrade be a good proposition? Do you think I will notice a good improvement from stock?

In that budget I would recommend changing your front speakers to best component speakers you can get in that price.

Best way is to go to a accessories shop and try it out your self and see whether you want to pay for it or not...
Since you are not changing anything else it should be easy to just try out the speakers to get a flavor...

On second thoughts, why not invest in the ICE and later when you change your car you can take out the ICE and put it in your next car...

Your won;t loose much except for installation charges, Damping and some wiring. Now days most cars have standard 6" speaker size, so that is not an issue.

That thing in BOLDs is a strict no no!

Just get the best possible components and forget the rest.
I would suggest to look for Illusion, Hertz Energy, Infinity reference/Kappa etc...
Stay away from Sony and Pioneer with this budget. My choice would be Hertz energy.

Let us know how much you finally spent on the ICE. :-) We've had ST7677 who started off with 15K was it? and ended up in 6 digits for his Civic and there are many more like that in team-bhp !!!

Upgrading just the speakers to better ones will definitely show improvement. Keep the head unit for the time being. You can get 2 pairs of speakers - like 2 pairs of coaxials from Hertz, Illusion or Infinity, for 10k. I think at just about 10-11k, you can fit Illusion components (EL6.1) at front and 6" coaxials of the same series for rear (I think EL62). Hertz Energy would also be similarly priced (?). That would be the best 10k you could spent.

And such a combo -- components + coaxial -- is future proof: if you decide to add an amp, and a sub, and a new head unit and the usual stuff that you have already read in the various threads, you still can keep those speakers. Choose your speakers accordingly, keep a flexible margin of say 20% to your budget (But never declare it here. It is very usual to get zeros added to your draft budget like they are running out of fashion) :-D
