How good will be th 100.4, i can wait for it, if it is going to be better. I plan to run the Illusions through any of the amps mentioned before in this thread.

Later on, i will be going for a sub and 2 channel amp to drive it. How much does a slim sub cost, something that can fit below the seats.

Why 2 channel for the sub rather than a monoblock ? And why slim woofer ? I think a normal 12 or 10 inch can be accommodated easily.

Mono's will cost alot, hence plan to go for a 2 channel. Boot space is very dear to me, hence want to put the sub below the seat.

busa - i dont think you should get a slim sub. if anything get 2 slim subs under the front seats and a 4 channel to drive them. 1 slim sub wont produce much bass.

how does this work exactly? i too would like to get a pair of slim subs below the seats with an external amp...

Not slim subs, but 2 x 8" IDQs. IDQs will be happy in very small enclosures, and they are shallower than most other subs.

I think Hydra IDQ does not comes in 8 inches.

The ID 8 inch has a mounting depth of 4.75 inch. I would suggest you GZTW 8 inches which has a mounting depth of 3.7 inch and require a enclosure of 6 liters / .21 cuft.

Most slim subs do not produce quality bass. I am not even talking quantity here. but the quality of bas from these pre-fab subs can be bettered. The technology is there, bettr drivers are available but I guess market forces do not justify this.

If I had to do this I'd take a pair of 6.5" or 8" woofers - some new woofers use NdFeB magnets mounted in front of the cone - these woofers are less deep and can be accomodated in say a box that is say 5" x 12" x 12" and using EQ (a la Linkwitz) and a big amp (more EQ mean more power) tune the system to say 40-42Hz. This will give you well defined bass that will span most modern music.

every woofer has box dimensions/volume that are most suitable for it. I would check with the manufacturer's specs and confirm. remember that one must account for the volume of the woofer (along with any ports and braces) and must hence consider the NET INTERNAL volume of the box. Some techniques that will allow you to shoehorn a woofer into a smaller box are Linkwitz EQ, making the box more lossy (a controlled form is called Aperiodic loading) etc..

Actually I'd look at Illusion's IM8 which has a mouting depth of little over 2".

That will be a good option. but its power handling is 100 watts. Thats why sub will do a better job.

Try pushing 100W into most 6-8" wofoers at 50Hz. 100W is more than adequate a thermal rating. at 50-100Hz it is Xmax, Bl, Mms etc. that are more important.

Thank you LBM, Hydra and Navin. I have no option other then getting a slim sub, since boot space is very dear to me, infact i plan to install the amp below the seats and not behind the third row.

I am confused about the amps.

A few options : -

JBL GTO 60.4 - Rs. 5500 - It can play 90db
GZ 4.1 MK 2 - Rs. 9300 - It can play 140db

And wiring comes to 3k or what? Ichibaan wiring kit is 3k so that means by budget has gone for a mighty toss

busa - ive sat in an innova with 'a' slim sub and it didnt have much bass. if you want good bass then get atleast 2.

Umm, it must be the Ground Zero wiring kit. Its the cheapest, good quality 8-ga wire kit. The Ichibahn kit was for Rs. 2500 or something, sold out now.

@busa-bhai, where and how did you get the db figures for the amps? One has to associate amp power with sub impedance and sensitivity before one gets to the db.

PS: The sub does not have to be "slim sub" (like the Pio TS-SW2541D) for the box to fit under the seat. Any sub with mounting depth less than 5" will fit into that space. The critical parameter is the box volume corresponding to the sub that you select. IMHO a 10" ID sub would be able to do a decent job (more like the roar of a full-blown 12incher than the miao of a slim sub) with a 0.5-0.6 cft box which can be shoe-horned under the Innova front seat. But, ID10 is not exactly cheap.
