though its like comparing apples to oranges,whats the difference in sound between the 9881 and 9887(i know it has TA,# way active crossover).i mean sound in general ,would i be able to observe the difference?

Hellie, there are small (but sometimes important differences). Though its a 3 preout, the 9881 has an HPF only, so you have to manage the LPF for the sub from the amp. Whereas the 9887 has everything.

Then the 9881 has no remote. The 9887 does. And EQ, TA, better display etc.

End of the day its these small features that make the 9887 seem such good value. If you dont have a budget issue, and future expansion is on your mind, go for the 9887.

No worries mate. Infact I am personally thinking of switching to Alpine. I googled a bit and everyone thinks Alpine is the best ( equal to or second to Eclipse that we dont get here.)

noticed that 9883/9885 has 50wx4 while 9881 has 45x4.also the 9881 and 9883 hav 2V preouts while the 9885 has 4V preouts.this will make a considerable difference to the sound,right?

you're going the right way.bu be sure of what you require.i am ok with alpine because i dont need the usb and ipod functions.if you do its best you look at some other brands or probably drop the idea of a usb and get an alpine with ipod compatability.

i think 9885 seems good vfm considering the difference between the 9881 and 9885(cost) is not much while the 9885 has biolite display and is bluetooth ready as well. it will atleast be future proof.i hope.

Infact I think I found one with a USB.

I think its called the 9886 and is a 2008 model. Available now at crutchfield.

Also I think Clarion 776USB is also a nice unit. But I will take expert advice before jumping in.

yup the 9886 seems to be a nice model.it has a usb input .it also has a 24 bit dsp integrated with dac .
except the imprint software and the time alignment features,it has evrything that the 9887 has.
how would the audio gurus rate this product:cda-9886.

The 5050 is selling for 6.5 - 6.7k here in Bangalore is what I heard. Always imagined Chennai to be cheaper.

1. Calrion 776USb discontinued 676usb available at cructhfield for $199
2. ALpine 9886r not yet available anywhere except Cructhfield for $299
3. 9887 in India doesnt come with imprint sound software- 23K b/w
3. does it make more sense to spend 4-5grands on front components and get a Pioneer 7950UB or JVC 825 or SH1000?

I really liked the Alpine customer support in India compared to Clarion.

Which option should i go with?
