Default what are the pros and cons of installing this equilizer!

gurus i have recently come across a equilizer, its an old one may be 6-7years old, its pioneer, i dont have the model number, i tooks pictures of it though.

what i want to know is,
1. is it worth fixing this equilizer in my car?
2.the price quoated was 6000 bucks is it worth the price?
3. will it gel well with my current audio set up?

here is my current audio set up,
i have a pioneer 6850 HU
front are blaupunkt componets 120W with XO and tweeters!
rear i have a pioneer 420W coaxials dont remember the exact model number
i have a sony 555, 500w amp,4-channel
and a2-channel 350W latest amp purchased a week back!
and a pioneer 900W sub woofer its champion series!

i have connected the components at front and the woofer to the 500W amp and the rear coaxials to the other 2channel amp!

will this equilizer do any good to my car or will be just waste of money?

here are the pics:

Stay away from it. It will make the sound worse than improving.

That EQ is plain noisy, in fact most of the EQs by Pioneer / Kenwood I have seen till date are Noisy, have however seen few models by Clarion that sound pretty decent and are not so unpleasant.

The worst combination is a Pioneer EQ with a Sony R1 DVD player.
It can make any tweeter sound like TS20s.

I guess it's fairly settled then! So do people here advise against EQs in general or just this model?

You see baba, EQs were design to overcome certain anomalies in the sound due to various technical factors, many concerning the listening environment.
The idea was to EQUALIZE - make all frequencies appear equal to the ear and as flat as possible by correcting (boosting or reducing) particular frequencies.
Over time, both the use and the design of these units ended up in electronics that were designed to boost(rather unnecessarily) certain frequencies, ending up in a rather un-equalized and unnatural sound.

Unless the right kind of equalizer is used in the right calibrated way, it will only ruin the sound completely.

Also, if your hearing is deficient (mine is in higher frequencies, and ever more so as the years pass) then a graphic equaliser is a good ***idea***. But the reality doesn't measure up.

They made an appearance on the home hifi market, but people realised that a good, pro, equaliser would be an expensive piece of kit, and that the cheapo version was just putting a bad link into the sound chain. I guess they're still available, but probably only bought by those with a very high minimum-nob-demand quotient for their systems.

Don't many head units come with equalisation in their software these days, anyway?

well i have this unit in my car and mostly use it for the sub controls. the eq is cut-off most of the time. what i like about this thing is that you have the analog controls upfront and dont need to run thru the HU menu to tweak the sound for every song/CD.

Had the little bro of that eq the 4500 until recently. With advice from the gurus, got rid of it and i am not repenting. Besides doesn't the 6850 already have a software eq and subwoofer control?
