Question Configure ICE for my Accent ...

Hey Guys ..
I will be getting my Accent delivered this week ..
Without any goodies though ..
So to start with i am looking for a very basic ICE setup (HU, front and rear speakers , Budget around 10-12000)
I am looking for an HU with Aux In mode to which i can connect my Nokia N91 phone .. (USB mode is not a necessity for me )

Have had a look at the following HU's (Grey Mkt, without B&W) :
Pioneer 7950 @Rs 8450/-
Pioneer 6950 @ Rs 6200/-
Blau London @ Rs 6000/-

The dealer had also shown me Blau Maui , but it dint have any Aux mode .
The dealer suggested to go for Blau London.
Which is a good HU . Any other which i should consider ?

Would also like to know whether or not VCD player would be a good option although i am not planning for a screen anytime soon.

The dealer also suggested to go for the Blau speakers.
Wat about Pioneer 6992 for the rear @ RS 2700-3000?
Not yet decided about the front speakers ..
but please advise whether GTO 937
and GTO 427 (if available )will be a good option ???

Thanks in Advance

There are better speakers available than Pioneer at that price point, namely Blaupunkt, JBL etc.

JBL GTO937 is an 6" x 9" oval speaker, GTO427 is 4" round speaker. Neither is suitable for mounting as front speakers in the Accent. The GTO937 would be suitable on the parcel shelf, but may need to be adapted to fit.

Guys, any idea what is the default provision in the Accent front doors and parcel shelf? I am not sure, but my Accent GTX of 2001 had 5.25" in the front doors. AFAIK, the rear doors don't have speaker provision in Accent.

If your budget is 10K I'd suggest you get a less expensive HU, but that would mean that you will not get Aux in.

The GTO937 and 427 will cost you about 8.5-9K (both pairs). The GT5 versions will save you about 1.5-2K.

So
a) get a cheaper HU (giving up Aux in) for say 4-5K and then 4 speakers for say 5-6K.
b) increase your budget to 15K and get an HU for 6K and 4 speakers for 8.5-9K.
c) get th HU for 6K and GT5 speakers for 7K, total budget 13K.

Righto! The front doors "officially" take 5.25", but we can manage 6.5" speakers in there. And the rear speaker provision is on the parcel-shelf. 6x9s can be managed easily.

But what about the front and HU???
10K for an aux-in HU and front and rear speakers is a bit tight. But since USB connectivity is not that important, I'm sure you can get a good HU with aux-in for about 6K. If I'm not mistaken all the entry-level HUs in the new Pio Lineup have aux-in (am I not right, folks?). You'll find JVCs with aux-in for about 4-5K.

That said, I'd suggest that you get a good HU (6Kish) and a pair of 6.5" components for the front for now, and get the rears later. The JBL GT5 6.5" comps (GT5-650C) are about 5K.

Or you can increase the budget a bit and get JBL GT5-963 coaxials also for 4K. If you opt for 6.5" coaxials in front, they will only come to about 3K.

You'll have similar options in Blaupunkt GT series.

door will take 6.5 inchers with a 1/2 inch spacer.

for the rear parcel tray accent comes with a plastic grill and holes in the sheet for round speakers.

for the 937's,
the sheet would need to be cut and the plastic covers would have to be removed and then the parcel tray has to be cut too. there might be some gap left around the speakers.

also, the parcel tray is very poor in quality, so handle with care.

Thanks a lot everyone for ur prompt replies..
What all i have understood from the replies to this thread till now is:
I should get an HU around 6k ..

Keeping the Team-BHP’ians suggestions in mind, following are the options I guess I have for my first car :

HEAD UNIT

Pioneer 6950 (@Rs 6200)
or Blau London (@6000-6300)
Both of them have AUX ..Help me decide which one should i go for?

· SPEAKERS

And as our senior BHP-ian HYDRASHOK suggested :
6.5" co axials for front @ about 3k
(Please let me know the actual model name for this JBL product ?)

For the rears will GTO 937 be ok?
But SAINTSINNER says that since GTO 937 are ovals so the parcel tray needs to be cut.
Now M confused .. what to go for …
Is cutting ok or should I avoid it and go for something else ?
Here is the 2nd config :
 • SPEAKERS
In one of the alternatives provided by NAVEEN ,
(c) says : “get th HU for 6K and GT5 speakers for 7K, total budget 13K.”

NAVEEN can u please name the product set of these front and rear GT5 speakers,
which in total will cost around 7k ?

Is the GT5 size appropriate for the front and back for the Accent ?

P.S : Sorry guys .. i dont have much idea of the lingo and even the products involved in setting up an ICE.
So it would be of immense help if u can provide me the make ,product and specify whether its for front or the rear ..
as in JBL GTO-637 Rear @Rs.xxx

Thanks & Regards,
Saurabh

hi

Budget 10-12K

HU
Pioneer 3950 ( older series ) - 4500rs approx(it has aux in that too in the front so need of buying seperate cable) Also if you ever wanna connect i pod you can do so using an adapter. its got 2RCA which is perfect if you dont have plans for adding a SUBWOOFER
FRONT SPEAKERS
JBL GT5 502 - 1600rs (with B&W) 1200rs (grey)

BACK SPEAKERS
JBL GT5 963 - 3500-3600rs ( with B&W) or 2000-2200rs (grey)

wiring and install = 500rs

so 4500+1600+3600+500 = 10000approx (with B&W)
and 4500+1200+2200+500 = 8400approx (grey)

Budget 15K
HU - pioneer 5950 - 5700rs (its got all of the above + 3RCA so you can add SUB later on with no difficulty) you can also look at the 5050 or 5090 which are the newer pioneer series HU's
FRONT - JBL GTO607 Components - 5500-5700rs (with B&W)
REAR - JBL GTO 937 - 2800 (grey)
wiring install - 600-700rs
5700+5600+2800+600=15000 approx

now since youve already been bitten by the ICE bug your budget must have gone over 15K
if so then you have lots of other options!

you'll need to change the rear parcel tray to a MDF one. and you will lose the high mount brake light.

Ya correct the stock parcel tray in a accent is a molded one with grill and brake light on it. One cannot fit oval on it directly thats why as suggest by SS one need to change the tray. Also SS has a accent he knows well about it.

Are you sure?

I think there is metal below the cosmetics of the Accent parcel shelf (it is a sedan), and the drivers get mounted on the metal.

One way is to use MDF adapters for the 6x9 (they will stick out from the parcel tray, but that will not necessarily look bad). Another way, similar to what you have suggested, is to discard the cosmetic plastic parts and replace by an MDF sheet covered with suitable carpeting, mount the 6x9 (with the ) on it with the HMSL. Yes, in either case one need not lose the HMSL.

This was done the DIY route by someone in an Ikon - search the forum.

see this thread.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/diy-do...aker-tray.html (Parcel/Speaker Tray)

i retained the brake lamp, but i don't think any installer will do this. maybe a carpenter would.

here you can see what i am talking about. pic is not clear see the original thread.

As you can see i used MDF adapters too earlier and carpeted the entire OE tray.

you can fit the speakers under the cosmetic traythis retaining the OE plastic grill, but they won't sound good. Had installed JBL's under the grill in a verna and city. they sound like 4 inch co axials.

Would really suggest you to go in for a MDF tray.

tell you what, if you don't rip your car apart very often like me, keep the OE tray, get MDF adapters made in .25 inch and get them carpeted in the same color as the tray.
when gettin the OE tray cut for the speakers, pls ensure that all the four screws per speaker pass through the adapter, then through the tray and are secured by locks.
