Friends,

Now I plan to get a Sub Woofer.
Tight Bass - that is what I look for.
Budget 5k.

I saw a Sub Woofer with Pankaj Bhai @ FMDrive.
He said it was from Thaiwan/Bangkok. I did not listen to it, it was a 6" Cone compact and nice. What is all your thoughts about a 6" Sub Woofer?
I'm eager about this 6 incher because it wont take up too much of Boot Space!

What are the Pros and Cons?
Please enlighten me and others!
[Navin sir, Sam, L&B, Ajay Bhai, DerAlte, F_B, LMB and all the good hearts! pl thro light]

Cool.
What about the Size?
I liked the 6" Sub Idea!
The 12" Sub will be a too big box!

would like to vouch for this installer as well. recently got a new amp wiring kit and rca cables and got my car ice wiring redone and am very satisfied with the work done.

difference i find with this chap is that he is very enthusiastic about his work and somewhat follows up with product launches etc which i dont see with other installers like RWH for whom each install is just another job

btw million had asked this in the meet thread but in case you missed it were you at ECR today because i think i saw your car today

Sir,

Can you post a link ?

I would like to learn more about a 6" driver that can play between 20 & 80 cycles.
What made ? Details ? TSP would be much appreciated... [TSP = Thiel Small Parameter] !!

Thanks,

There are quite a lot small drivers which can work as small subwoofers:

Rainbow Vanadium 7"
Focal Beryllium 5"
JL Audio 6W0

They cannot achieve 20Hz with good loudness but multiple of them will definitely achieve good lowend.

Lightbulb Utopia Be 13 WS

Utopia Be 13 WS

Compact 13cm (5") subwoofer developed for mounting at the front of the vehicle, 22mm (0.9") high linearity voice coil, Neodynium magnet.
High power handling, significant energy contribution in a well limited inner volume environment in order to achieve exceptional bass reproduction.

Yes, There is a 5" driver that can do the job. Great. I never knew.

36 cycles -3 db.

Basically it is a sealed enclosure woofer - 3 to 7 litre - very very small.

This may be more of a 'consolation' prize - rather than an actual solution. Most components can play till 50 hertz or around. So this woofer may not be of much use.
However, have never heard it, so will not discount it off.
Mr. Dominic Baker [cheif designer] @ Focal is a great engineer & a good friend. Has come home too, will ask him the next time I meet him.
p.s. he is ex-tannoy.

True, Tannoy has given lot of engineers to industry. KEF founder Raymond Cooke happen to be one of them like Dominic Baker.

Hey B, check out it's Mms and Sensitivity figures. They might prove to be it's undoing. Still the woofer might be best use for "bass reinforcement" rather than true bass per se.

Cool Sir please explain terminology!

Bhagwan sir,

why dont you please explain the terms

Cycles, db, etc in Sub Woofer scenario, in lay man terms.
So that we would understand what is what and how to understand the Specs of a Sub Woofer.

thanks for participating!

MS

MS
My Apologies;

I will make it simple :-

Cycles = Hertz

If you want to say 20 Hzs then we can also say 20 cycles
Hzs = Frequency.
This could be of any transducer. Woofer / Mid Woofer / Tweeter etc.

dB = SPL Level or Sensitivity
Generally the SPL [sound pressure level] is measured in dB [LBM will explain this well]
Also the sensitivity of a transducer [driver] is stated in dB

There may be many many more technical terms that can be used for woofers & their enclosures. I will not get into that at this time. I may get you irratated & I do not want to do that.

If there is any thing else I can help you with, please do feel free to ask. I would love to be of help !!
