Default Which CD changer:

Hi Guys,

I am thinking of going for multi-CD changer for My Swift. Presently I have Pioneer HU DEH 5850 MP. Require info on

1. Is it advisable to go for Multi CD Changer, consideration is space and advantages of having them on board

2. Any recommendation with costing details.

I did searched the forum, but couldn't find much info.

since u wanted to upgrade a CD changer.. my suggestion is to forget CD changers and upgrade to a head unit that supports USB (even bluetooth if u can afford). USB won't work with old HUs.

these days AUX-IN, USB, Bluetooth (in that order of importance) have become basic expectations from head units. i have a 6-CD changer and i dont remember when i used it last time. i do have plenty of CDs.. but i think USB sticks are much more convenient and reliable.

I will try to exchange my Pioneer DEH-5850MP HU with the one BT, USB and AI. I do agree with you that USB sticks makes life easier.

Being in IT industry, was not updated myself on HUs.

At 5K, I can get a better HU, in exchange with the present HU. I am unable to understand, why it should cost so much, if the diff in cost of HU is hardly 2-3K.

It's probably inflated in part because there's not much demand. As you rightly pointed out, you would get a nice HU for 5K + exchange.

Good question. Its simple really but the fact is they develop a new product with additional parts like body, ports, cables, etc. as an add-on for the high end units that dont have USB built in. For a $1000 DVD HU, a USB add on box for $100 isnt a big deal and people wont complain.

But the fact is, it works out expensive to use the same for a basic $100-200 HU. So they have units with built-in USB.

May be he wants to stack in multiple mp3 cds.
btw, do the cd changers read mp3 format.

a cd changer should be costing around 3k-5k. is it not better to consider the exchange option.

Pioneer CD Changers does not read mp3. But there is one model which can play DVD, mp3`s extra but it will be very expensive one.

i remember sony having a MP3 cd changer. I have a 10 CD changer that does not play MP3s, but still very useful to stack 10 CDs of good quality audio.
Maybe it is a good idea after all.

some do some dont. My wife's Alpine (634) for example does. However with the advent of USB and hard drives specialised for use in automobiles (MK8050GAC Toshiba Automotive Hard Disk Drive) CD changers (MP3 or not) have become sorta passe.
