For running two speakers and a sub you need two 2ch amps, or one 2ch and a mono, or a 4ch amp.

He can wire the 2 channel amp to 2 speakers and one sub also using a passive cross over also.

Blau calls this the phantom setup or so ..right?

I have the same opinion as Gunbir.

4 channel if you are on a budget, else get a mono.

Of course I know the Tri-mode but the problem is most newbies don't want to "tri" that hard for a simple system. Factor in the time, effort and money spent on designing and building a crossover and a basic 4ch amp would seem a more viable option.

Much appreciated, Gunbir! That's the spirit, though we get carried away sometimes. (The last part is not valid for Navin!!!)

Yeah, I get carried away always (witness Best component speaker thread). LOL.

Seriosuly, I wonder if anyone agrees to the first line of Post 54 of the above mentioned thread.

Incorrect / limited interpretation: you only took the last word (sometimes), I meant the last phrase ("we get carried away"). "Carried away" is too innocuous a word for you - your passion is incomparable. Keep it coming!

Yes, I agree completely. That ICE is audio in an automobile is just incidental for nuts like us.

Is there a 4-channel amp which is 2 ohm stable (bridged) ?

Can we use it to power the two coils of a DVC sub in parallel ?

If you are thinking of a 4 channel amp to drive two sub, you are certainly on budget. And a 4 channel amp that is 2 ohms stable is meant to be costly.

There are couple of companies like orion and PPI who makes 1 ohm stable 4 channel amp but you can hardly get them here. And lately, orion, PPI, Phoenix Gold are not of the same quality as it was. That's what I hear from my friend in US.

U've got it mixed up.
Almost always, a 2-channel version of a 4-ch amp is like a cut-half.
Eg. JBL GTO 75.4 = 2x JBL GTO 75.2
JBL CS 60.4 = 2x JBL CS 60.2.
Get the drift?

Der Alte, you shoulda seen me in the late 70s. I think I built about 15-20 pairs of speakers (each build was a different design and tested different speaker topologies) between '78-'81. Other good periods were '83-'85(studio years primairly Klipsch, Gold Sound and JBL Pro series), '87-'88 (Dynaudio/Morel, Audax, Peerless and Focal years), and '92-'95 (ScanSpeak/VifaSpeak, PHL and Accuton years).
