1. please do not use SMS terminology on TBHP. I had to read your post twice to understand it.

2. for 12K I'd suggest getting an amp and good front speakers. Use the stock OEM speakers till your budget permits.

There are 4-5 good amps (JBL, Blau, Kenwood, Pioneer) that can be had for about 6-7K and similarly about 3 good component speakers (JBL, Blau, Illusion) for about 5-6K.

Am really really sorry navin, and to evrybody......I guess my lazyness is eating on to things that I write....figured out the difficulty only when I myself tried reading it. Sorry again!

I was wondering how much it would cost for a decent component to be put in front and a good coaxial at the back with a suiting 4 channel amp for this Alphine HU. And what about damping? How important would it be in Magnum?

Sir, I am a bit lost; You mentioned that your bedget is 10 to 12 K
In this you want 'decent components' + 'good coaxial' + 'suiting 4 channel amp' + 'damping'
Ambitious, is the least I can say;

The damping for the car along will set you back 15 K.
100 sq. ft is what you will need for 4 doors @ Rs. 150/- per sq. ft. + Labour - fitting charge Rs. 2/- K minimum.

@channelv, please limit smileys to 2 - hope you have read the posting rules.

Hmmm, have you listened to the stock system? What was it that you found was lacking?

As Navin said, getting components in front and an amp are the 2 measures with the most effect. For example, a Blaupunkt GTA4 Mark II Special (6K with b&w) with JBL GTO 607 or Blaupunkt THc172 or Hertz DSK165 or Illusion Electra 6.1 (~6K).

You would need a couple of thou more for decent wiring (watch out for fakes). A bit of damping wouldn't hurt - a good installer should be able to do some strategic 'jugaad' damping with closed cell foam and cotton waste. Of course the proper way to do it would be with regular damping sheets like Dynamat, etc., which would cost at least 5K.

Default ICE for Magnum - Gurus Please Help

I have booked a Chevrolet Optra Magnum and should be getting it sometime next week. I went through a lot of threads and found that the HU & speakers that come with the car aren't good enough and I plan to change them. This is what I was planning.

HU - JVC KW AVX814
Speaker Rear - DLS Performance 960 - 3 way co axials
Speaker Front - DLS Performance C6A - 2 way components

I plan to have a 4 channel Amp & a mono amp to drive the sub.

When I met an ice installer I was advised against using a sub. The reason quoted was that the boot in Magnum is kind of air tight and I will not get enough bass effect in the cabin.

Now I request the Gurus to help me out with the following,

1) What is the approximate price for the HU, Co axials & Comps?
2) I need suggestions on which amps to use along with their approximate prices. I am looking at VFM
3) Has somebody used a sub in Magnum, does it give decent bass?
4) The above mentioned HU is 5.1 channel, I need suggestions for the surround speaker along with mounting ideas.

Thanks in advance,

Manoj

I am not uptodate on prices but LBM is one DLS owner on THP who might be abl to help.

Yes the bass from a sub in the trunk of a sedan might be attentuated but it will still come through into the cabin.

For the amps check out JBL, Pioneer, Kenwood and Ground Zero. Each of them makes a decent VFM 4 channel amp and monoblock.

Congrats dude, thats some very good equipment you have got there! Please post the install pics and importantly the pics of the DVD Head-Unit from different angles if possible.

By the way, whats the difference between JVC AVX 810 and 814?

Cheers
