Thumbs up Very Tricky Choice To Make (A simple DVD MP3 player)

Dad : Beta , i cant play this CD in the car

Son : Its a DVD dad , not a CD

Dad : My CRV cant play DVD's ?

Son : No Standard unit can .

Dad : You bought yourself a unit for the city (pio 4050ub) , does that play DVD's ?

Son : Nope, It plays Mp3 Cds

Dad : Does mine do that ?

Son : Nope

Dad : Why do u waste money on something that cant play Cd's ????

Son : It plays CD's .... just not DVD's !!!

Dad : Well , I'd like to play this CD in my car

Son : Its DVD pappa!!!! are you ready to accept changing your stock unit??

Dad : I dont want anything fancy , i want something simple

Son : Well ... hmmm...DVD units all look Fancy and you'll have a screen and all .

Dad : Why do i need a screen , I just want Music.

Son : Well ,there going to be a gap in console unlike the double din u have now then.

4 mins pass by trying to explain about double and single din.....

Dad: Im not spoiling the look of my CRV with a gaping hole

Son : Well , Double Din it is then with a screen.

Son: But you'll have to get used to touch screen and what not pa , cause the buttons will be small and your going to crib about not being able to tell what each is.

Dad: beta , i just want a simple unit to play this cd, i mean DVD. and shouldnt look flashy.

Dad : So that means you wasted money on buying that player for the City.

and Son leaves the room since the conversation was leading nowhere .

So guys ........ any suggestions for a DVD Mp3 player which is understated in looks and has buttons and will match a Double Din slot . Keeping in mind that the 2005CRV has the slot on the top and wouldnt want glare to affect visibility .

(I dont mind single din, but im sure that gap will be another " waste of money" in his thoughts)

Yes, it would sit flush in the HU slot provision. Alternates are JVC AVX-800 / 814 / 815 / 816 etc.

Usually these LCDs have decent enough brightness for the display to be visible in all conditions but direct sunlight. Not sure of the Panasonic model, but with the JVCs I think there is some leeway for tilting the LCD.

Check the other threads under Product Information.

If it is a music DVD, copy it into iTunes and cut a Audio CD for your Dad!!

I'm sure he will be thrilled to know you did not spend a packet!

cheers!

Make sure your dad is not mentioning playing a DVD-Audio disc. AFAIK very few units (such as Pio AVH-P7800DVD) play DVD-A format. And the HUs that are compatible with DVD-A and SACD are pretty expensive.

Au Contraire, Sony has a couple of SACD players around 10K and DVD-A is not uncommon in DVD units.

eeerm , its not just my dad thats getting an educations for sure . With all your replies, Ive ended up knowing that DVD-A doesn't mean Mp3's(or any other format music files) on a DVD, lol.

Coming to the point of making CD's of the DVD , well ...... i'm actually against this since my dad drives all by himself on the highway. Its normally a 4-5hrs journey and i don't want him changing cd's while driving. He's recently had an minor accident trying to reach out for a bottle of water. If a DVD player can take out this probability when he's given me the chance to upgrade his system, I'm certainly not gonna think of the money aspect.

in regard to the choices given , I'm pretty cushty on the JVC's since reading about a lot of them on here and think im going to dive straight into this option.

One option i been waiting as a suggestion was the AVX33(or AVX11) to be installed and have the vacant slot above the unit rather than below. This would in effect completely negate the possibility of glare .

I think my minds only going to be clear of his negativity once i drive in an OLD CRV fitted with a double din screen.Guess i need to see it for myself that glare ain't an issue at all because it does have about 1/4 inch lip on the top.Any bhp'ians here that own a crv and can clear this itch of mine.

Why not consider buying another pio 4050ub. Then, transfer the contents from your Dad's DVD to a 4 GB pen drive. Even a 4 GB pen drive should hold a good 15-20 hrs of high bitrate mp3's.

i was just gonna suggest the same thing, and a 4gb pendrive in my opinion is more than enough

hey here's my 2 pence advice. get a single din. it'll save you the trouble and get a changer unit below the player so the gap is filled i think there are some dvd changers available too. get a 5 or 6 disk changer. that way you can stick in all the dvds cd's mp3's and he doesn't have to do a thing.
