Devices that can be connected to the AUX IN - Team-BHP

Can the gurus please list all the devices that can be plugged to the AUX IN without any modifications even to a simple basic MP3 player like Pio 2950/2990.

Any device which has a Aux Out / Speaker out can be connected IMHO. Be it a USB player, iPod, CD player etc

Turn the volume up!

No, seriously...

If it is some piece of kit with a 'line out' then there probably is no volume or level control on that kit, you get what you get, and that's it.

If using a head-phone out, I would set the HU to a mid, or sort-of-usual-for-you volume, and turn the volume on the device right down.

Bring the device volume up as far as you can, but at any hint of distortion then back off. Let the device give as much as possible, but beware of distortion, that's what damages things.

It's true you won't get good sound just by turning up the HU if the device is not giving enough in the first place. It will sound 'thin'.

Not a techie... but have plugged quite a few bits of sound kit together, mostly in houses, but sometimes in cars.

To make it simple, any device with an audio output can be connected via a stereo jack. I connect my laptop sometimes to see some movie clippings with good sound effects.

If the headunit has level adjustment, use that, but I think most of them dont.

So now, here's another trick, assuming you're connecting an iPod/MP3 player. Download MP3gain (MP3Gain). Use this software on your PC to increase the level of your MP3 files. Around 92 dB should be loud enough.

could you clarify - weak as in weak sound , or weak bass? weak bass could mean that the connection is not proper, and it would be recommended to see if the jacks are fully inserted

Its a Basic Nippon Audio CD/MP3 player offered by the dealer as a package with the car

Ive no idea about nippon HUs as such but maybe you require a special kind of cable which will give you a aux-in port.

Akshay, your player comes with an auxiliary port behind the system, not in front. It's the same story with the Pioneer HUs (most of them). They all have an 'Aux' source option, but you have to have the appropriate cables connected to the back of the system and brought out to the front.

Some Pioneers have a stereo headphone jack in the front that you could use to connect your iPod (or any kind of stereo player that has a headphone or line-out jack), but with most of them (like my Pioneer HUs) you need to go to your ICE guy and have him fit the appropriate cables for you. Cables + fitting shouldn't cost you more than 500 bucks.
