| Senior - BHPian | Exactly as Sam said! Very detailed and honest review. Made for a good read. And thanks for the pics They are good enough, don't worry there.Don't worry about the settings now. You'll arrive at a good set of settings/sound soon enough -- you have good stuff in there. The Pio will grow on you, don't worry. Compared to some other brands, quite a few controls are more accessible and controllable in Pios. Well it is a little bling ![]() You should be ok with a 256kbps VBR rip. Not too much difference above that. More than 320kbps may not be ok with the HU. Enjoyyyyyy! |

| BHPian | Ive a weird question to all Gurus. While choosing an ICE setup, is there any ratio between the power of 4 speakers to the woofers that is to be considered? (power in RMS). For eg. a set up with 50W x 4 + 400W x 1 or a 40W x 4 + 250 W x 1 will sound better? Or the power set up is entirely dependent on personal preference / vehicle specific / budgetary consrtaints? |

| BHPian | Please read 50W x 4 + 200W x 1 for the above post. Typo error. |

| There is little difference between 40W and 50W and also between 200W and 250W. So dont bother. The amp's design/build/pedigree would be a more important factor. Now on the other hand lets cosider to hypothetical amps Amp 1: 40 x 4 + 400W x 1 = 560W total Amp 2: 80 x 4 + 250W x 1 = 550W total same build/pedigree etc.. If I were driving 4 6" 2ways and a 8-10" sub I'd take Amp 2, If I was driving 4 4-5" 2 ways and a 12-15" sub I'd take Amp 1. If I were driving 4 6" 2 ways and a 12" sub I'd still take Amp 2 becuase in my case I dont push my sub too hard and a 6" does a decent job for the midbass. Now if there was an Amp3 that was 120 x 5 = 600W I might NOT have any car audio based application for it unless I was looking to make it into a 3 ch. amp by bridging 2 channels or some niche application like that. |

like for the above amp I would take the 40W x 4 + 250 W x 1 and bridge the 40 x 4 to make it 2 ch and drive the front with that and with the 250 watts I would drive the sub....

| BHPian | Gurujis, I need some advice (as the thread rightfully suggests) My current setup is as follows: Headunit : Pioneer DEHP-9650MP Premier Edition with 6.5V Pre-out Pioneer TS-G1311R 13-cm (5") front speakers (Front doors) Pioneer TS-S20 Dome Tweeters Pioneer TS-2150 Speakers in the rear Pioneer CDX-P1280 12 CD Changer Pioneer 12" TS-W306DVC Sub Audiobahn A8002T Amplifier (powering the Sub, both channels powering 1 coil each - 800W RMS @ 4 Ohm) Boschmann Z-8028X 2 Channel Amplifier(powering the TS-2150 + Tweeters) 4 Gauge wiring Power Acoustik 3-Farad capacitor The sound lacks some serious vocal notes as everything seems to over power the fronts (which in my opinion is worthless sound reproduction) Do you think that the front speakers can be powered by the amplifier without any hassle and that I power the rears from the HU will make a difference? How about some reasonable components. What would you suggest for this? Hertz DSK165 / JBL GTO507 / JBL GTO607 / Soundstream components (as speedzak suggested me in a post in another thread) A shop quoted me 5.5k for the 507 with b/w. Do hertz come in the same price range or any other ones? Suggestions? Secondly, I want to get a clean install done, the amps and cap are bolted on the rear seat iron panels and look bad (see pic), also the sub is in a box and I find it quite a pain for boot space. ![]() ![]() I quite liked Quicksilver's install (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/sound-...de-my-ohc.html (ICE Upgrade on my OHC)) Is this recommended for my current ICE? yeah but you could do that to the 50x4 + 400W amp as well. The issue here was that one shoudl compare equal amps. All things remaining equal the bigger amp will often sound better. BTW one good informal judge of an amp is it's weight. Now dont go making that public or Bose would soon be selling amps with Iron bars inside. | |

add a pair of components from JBL/Hertz/Alpine/Blapunkt/ etc..5-6K (JBL has a CS series of components that will save you 1K or so over their GTO series) add a Pio 6200 amp...7K add damping and good RCA interconnects 5-7K. total 20K. Hope that works for you.

| BHPian | Ok Navinji, LBM, here is my plan for ICE upgrade for my little Alto. Existing. HU – Pioneer DEH 5750MP Front Sony 2 way Coaxial – 20W RMS (120w max) Rear Pioneer 6 x 9 TS-A6991 80W RMS (420w max) on rear shelf. Planned Option 1 HU – Existing. Front – 4” Infinity Kappa 42.7i, 50W RMS, 75hz-25Khz (INR 3,348/-) Rear – Existing Sony XM 554ZR - 4 channel amp for speakers, 55x4 RMS (INR 4,200/-) JBL P1222 sub woofer, 400W RMS (INR 8,500/-) 23hz – 400hz in sealed enclosure (INR ?), Pioneer 5300T for subwoofer, 380W RMS when bridged (INR 5,100), Option 2 HU – Existing Front – 4” Infinity Kappa 42.7i, 50W RMS, 75hz-25Khz (INR 3,348/-) Rear – Existing Sony 4 channel amp for speakers, XM 554ZR, 55x4 RMS (INR 4,200/-) Infinity Basslink II 250W RMS active subwoofer 20-400hz (INR 14,000/-) Option 3 HU – existing Front – 4” components Sound stream EGC.4, 80W RMS, 90hz-20Kz (INR 5,100/-) Rear – Existing Kenwood KAC X40 4 channel amp for speakers, 70 x 4 RMS (INR 13,200/-) JBL P1222 sub woofer, 400W RMS (INR 8,500/-) 23hz – 400hz, in sealed enclosure (INR ?), Pioneer 5300T for subwoofer, 380W RMS bridged (INR 5,100) All prices – Approximation and subjected to negotiation. 5 channel amplifiers dropped due to cost. Howz Kicker Solobaric S12L5 sub compared to JBL P1222? Kicker's catalogue says S12L5 rated for 600W RMS with a subsonic filter tuned to 23hz. Otherwise the power handling is only 150W RMS. Quite confused. However JBL catalogue doesnt mention anything of that sort. Amp installation kit from Monster/lighting audio/sound stream, 80A fuse near battery, one power and ground distribution block each, new speaker wires for existing ones, enclosure accessories etc (cost N/A). Damping shall be done later (Just to feel the difference). I propose wedge shape enclosure (1cu ft inside vol w/ sub. ie. 1.2cu ft w/o sub) for subwoofer and place the woofer on the right corner (with woofer firing to the rear) in the luggage area so as to liberate maximum space. The subwoofer location shall be a permanent one. Basslink II is already purchased. So if any other setup is selected, then I’ll dump the Basslink II. I did not like its performance anyway. My CS1200B JBL (125W RMS) sub in the other car powered by Sony XM502Z gives more punch and costs less than Basslink II. I prefer the factory position for the front speakers. I need some MDF rings to raise the height of rear 6x9 speakers so that the magnets do not protrude into the luggage space. Other speakers taken into considereation were - Hertz HV100 4” (75hz-10k) @ 50W RMS (+ any tweeter), MTX Tx4001 @ 75W RMS, DLS PS4A, Focal K2 Power 100KP etc. But dropped due to high price/non availability. I would like to do the installation by myself (except for the carpentry work). Just for fun. I request Audio Gurus and fellow Tbhpians to comment on the above and advice. |

the option you have shown vary from 20K to over 30K. Obviously Option 3 would outperform the others. but for 35K... you could spend 15-20K on amplification, 9-10K on a sub with box and 5K on front components. There are other 4" compoenents (Hertz/Kicker/MB Quart/Rainbow/DLS/etc..) I would choose the front speakers first. The P1222 is a nice sub at 8.5K. FYI, At 5.5K JBL makes the GT4-12. So if the 3K difrence is improtant to you then the GT4-12 might be another option. Also at 13K for a amp the venerable JBL 75.4 could also be considered also the Pio 515 might be available for about 20K. It gives you a 5ch. amp solution but at the cost of lower power. Spending 20k is TOO much right now with the new footwear and suspensing costs beating the crap out of me.Step 1 - Can I start with the components and a simple clean install? Who in Delhi will help me with this? Gunbir sir, can you help? Navinji/Gunbir - In the same price range of 5-6k, which one would be a better buy for the components? JBL/Hertz/XYZ?
