Thanks, navin. I would like to learn a bit about dome midrange vs cone midrange speakers. A link or two would also be very useful as googling hasn't helped. Do dome midrange drivers invariably come with rear chambers?

Hello all
could some one help me out with an under the seat amp install.?
how exactly is this done.
do i need an mdf board to be sndwiched between the amp and the chasis.
Should i drill into the chasis or the self tapping screws do the needful?

Pictures would help if anyone could share their install

best place for everything audio is diyaudio.com

when refering to dedicated midrange drivers (usually XOed at 300Hz+) domes ususally have a rear chamber and some cones have too.

dont use self taping screws. use machine screws and nuts to lock things in place and yes using a MDF board makes sense.

sir
would that mean that i am required to pass the screw thru the amp( its provision) then thru the mdf board and then thru the vehicle chasis and then add the nut from below the chasis - ( i dont think the last part is easily possible) i will have to dismantle quite a few things from the underside of the car for that to happen.

or did you mean to just nut bolt the board and amp together and shove that under the car seat.
if so then how do i stop the whole arrangement from shifting and bouncing?

Want to know the comparison b/w JBL 75.4 Amp and Ground Zero GZTA 4.120MK2.

Which will be the better stuff.

I am also planning to install Illusion Elctra components in the front.

please suggest
I also have almost the same confusion!
Have finalized the illusion comps in front and 6" coaxials in the rear doors.
But I am confused about the amp and woofer.

Should I go for the above suggested Ground zero sub and amp?
The other options are:
- JBL 75.4 amp and JBL 12" woofer
- JBL 75.4 amp and Ground Zero Woofer (is this mixing of brands recommended?)

I read somewhere that the JBL 75.4 is discontinued now, is that right.
If no, what is the tentative price in Delhi with B&W.

I need to decide on that for my JBL 506c components.
the components come with their own crossover designed to get the correct frequency response from the drivers. Personally, I feel first orders are best

from its spec, 12 dB/octave, 4k, seems like its a second order. Even though you should be eble to come up with values, it would be better to find them out from someone who has them/ Sam himself

actually I have never had an amp installed under a seat so maybe i did not think this through but a self taping screw too wold evtually loose it grip so a nut- bolt combo is what i recommended.

crossover slopes are dependant on many factors
1. power handling of drivers
2. driver break up mode
3. freqeuncy curves of drivers
4. typical install locations of drivers

for the car audio enviroment usually 1st order electrical XOs are not used even rarer are 1st order acoustic crossovers.

usually yes. primarily due to the uneual distance between the listener and woofer and listener and tweeter.

Navinji,
You mean to say 2nd or 3rd order XOs to be used, and which is better- 3rd order considering phase shift?
What is acoustic crossover.

There is not much to differentiate between those GZ and JBL subs and amps, though there are always some strong opinions for either.

Yes, the JBL 75.4 has been discontinued for a while now, but there are still a few leftover pieces here and there. If you are lucky, you may get one.

There is no reason why one cannot use sub of one brand, and amp of another, especially if there is a cost advantage. Many times, of course, one can get a good deal if

The Illusions are a good choice.

sorry sir, but i have used both the subs for quite a while. i find there is a total difference in the way they beat. the thump or the bass, i dont know what exactly to say sound entirely different. JBL gives a hard kick at particular frequency and GZ gives a soft soothing punch spread over a wide range of frequencies.

to be frank i enjoyed both the subs. but u need some time to get accustomed to the different sounds of both the subs.
