@greenie, must have been an 'autofused' installation, not 'autofusion'. The installer has completely goofed up. From what one can make out of @chetans' description, the installer must have painted himself into a corner by not checking position with the door closed. Where was this done?

@chetans, please go back to the installer and ask him to shift the tweeters to either the mirror pod, or relocate it altogether and put it at the base of the A-pillar.

clearly the tweeter is out of place in my case.

the tweeter location shown in above install can still be used in my case?

i was too lazy to look over the install as i was exhausted.
i was (over) confident that nothing can go wrong

but the holes made for the original tweeters will still be there. Best option is to move the tweeters and leave spare grills where the original holes are so the door does not look bad.

Isn't that going to supress the highs navin ji (Hiding the tweeters when door is closed)

Suggest a single din alternative to Corolla's double din original player.
New HU should have USB/AUX IN/Bluetooth connectivity.
Price under 8-10k, cheaper the better!

Also suggest good rear speakers which can be fitted in original setting.

& which amp + sub to keep in the boot?

thats horrible. I dont think tweeters come with spare grilles, and leaving the tweeter open without a grille might make it vulnerable to damage!

that was the last thing i ever wanted

i am thinking like we can keep some old nonfunctional tweeters as fillers and move the new tweeter to proper place.
i am not sure whether to go for mirror location or in dash location or front door location for the tweeter. did search for this and mostly mirror is seem to be suggested. but i have not found any post here related to wagonr with such setup.

your installer might have spare grills from older installs. some tweeters that might have been installed in stock tweeter locations and the grills that came with them not being used.

Useing a filler tweeter is a good option. You'd want the door to as sealed as possible.

mirror location
good: ear height, often offers better imaging angles.
bad: closer to windshield hence prone to reflections if tweeter has good dispersion or not angled right, distance from woofer is more hence can sound disjointed (bass coming from below, highs from above).

door location: closer to woofer
bad: imaging can suffer.

solution: use double sided sticky tape and try both locations before proceeding.

Hello Gurus,

I have a 2003 Santro Xing with 4" Front 'knee-ward firing' and 5 1/4" 'roof-ward firing' factory fitted pods.

Based on advice (search thread) from navin, jkdas, Sam and blueraven(PM and in-person) here is my current set of questions for my planned ICE upgrade :

1. How do I make the best use of the factory-pods
2. What is a good set of components in the 4" and 5 1/4" categories?
3. Is there a need for a 5 1/4" compos?
4. How does one improve bass and mids with a 4 + 5 1/4" setup?
5. Will building custom enclosures (boxes) for the factory pods help?

My HU of choice is the Clarion DXZ585USB, and an amp is under consideration for step-2 of the upgrade.

My current 4" favorites include (in no particular order):

• Infinity Kappa 42.7i
• Infinity Reference 4022i
• Alpine SPS-400
• JBL- GTO-428
• Hertz HSK100

The 5 1/4" favorites are (in no particular order):

• Infinity Reference 5022i
• JBL GTO527
• Infinity Kappa 52.9i
• Infinity Reference 5020cs
• Hertz HSK130

These speakers vary in cost and that is accepted. Coming to my listening choices - rock acoustic, metal, grunge, punk and melody - Coldplay et all. My music choice varies widely though and clarity/fidelity is most important followed by midrange. Bass is slightly lower on the list.

navin once mentioned on TBHP that Hertz are a rockers speaker - and I planned to go out and buy Hertz the next day However the engineer in me has since taken hold and am collecting as much data as possible to prevent me from flogging self on a 'could be better' thing!

if you wire the two coils in parallel, and then wire them in series ( or vice versa) any mono should be able to handle them, since total impedance will still be 4 ohm

If you are intent on using stock pods for the Santro get good coax speakers the stock pods are poor locations and dont offer you much room for components.

if you want bass get a subwoofer. Even a small 10" sub will help.

1. have you set a budget for this?
2. which speakers have you heard? and liked?
3. the santro is not an easy car to ice well. take your time.
