| BHPian | Hey guys. need help on tuning my friend's ICE. Car : i10 HU : JVC KD R616 Front Compo : Infinity Reference REF6030CS Amp. : JBL GTO 1004E Sub. : JBL GT5-S12 1200W Wiring Kit : Scosche E2 1000 W Amplifier Wiring Kit Enclosure for SUB. : Sealed. Damping : Local 500rs. wala. dont know what they call. but he said local manufactured. As some of you know the ICE scenario in ahmedabad is sux. Dealer insisted us on some Vibe speakers and sub setup. but we didn't agree and gone with JBL. Installation was also not upto the mark. many times i have to show him my ICE. Like placing Amp. , wiring, mounting tweeter etc. On Amp. we have bridged the channel # 3&4 to SUB. 1&2 driving front Infinity. Installer straight away set the gain and HPF setting without playing any track. Like he thinks that all the AMPs should be set to default value. After setting up gain on amp. he fiddled with HU's HPF. and set it to 100. and said your system is ready. I thought i will set the gain and hpf setting with the help of you guys. so we simply went away from there. Now my friend is complaining that on 30-40 volume Sub is not at all loud. he wants to have thump at lower volume. I said OK. we can work on that by setting up gain and HPF settings on all 4 channels from scratch. I read the Gain Settings Simplified thread. and will follow the Frank's guide for Gain. But i completely clueless on HU part. as i don't have in my car. So what should be the settings on HU part ? So need help on that part. |

| Dont mix HU and amp settings. If you do yo have to do so carefully. AMp settings are nice becuase you dont loose them when the car goes for servicing, HU setting are easier to set as you can listen while you set. So first keep the amp on flat/all-pass and only use the HU. Once you have what you like on the H, translate them to the amp and keep the HU on flat/all-pass. Once you get the hang of simple settings you willl leanr that you can mix Hu and amp setting but do so carefully. You can really mess up phase resonse if you dont. |

| I have a JVC AVX-826, 2 basic JBL speakers on the front and at the rear of my Scorpio. Output is satisfactory. For a change I had plugged in a JBL tube sub-woofer to the right rear output instead of the normal speaker and the output was outstanding. Will this affect the IC based HU? Is it a must to power a sub with a mono amp? If "yes" which is the best mono amp that costs around INR 10K? |

| so gurus i am back got a kenwood 7043 installed as i needed a bluetooth system .now it has three pair of rca outs .what happened triple trouble ,triple noise. now i disconnected the second amp, removed its earth .and disconnected the rca.noise still there. then removed the subwoff rca .the noise decreased but still present. now i had an el cheapo boss rca .i removed the front rca provided by jbl and connected the boss rca to the front out of hu and the front input of amp. no noise .the front comp playing ok without noise .the boss rca have a plastic grips instead of the metallic ones in the jbl rca's.now waiting for the gurus to guide me then connected the jbl rca to the sub out of hu and rear in of amp noise is loud . so deduced that the subout give more noise than front out |

| BHPian | Anyone good/bad reviews for the Pioneer 7150 HU? I'm almost decided on going for this, as it meets most of requirements. |

| BHPian | I have got polk db 691 speakers in the rear, and a pio 5150 head unit for my verna. I have plans of picking up a gt5 amp and front components. I do not like my music bright, but I do tend to listen to it at high volume often. I am still unsure about whether I will pick up a sub woofer now or later (for now assume I dont pick it up), but I wanted opinions for the front components. I will be choosing between polk or hertz energy and if someone can rate this in order of increasing brightness for me it would be great: 1) Hertz energy with amplification 2) Polk with amplification 3) Hertz without amplification 4) Polk without amplification If someone can clarify this for me, would be a great help. |

| @pras.oct25, it is better that you listen to these (and of course other brands and models) and decide for yourself which is brighter. What may not be bright for others may be bright for you, and vice versa. The best would be to check out installations of Team BHP members in Chennai - it would give you a very good idea how different brands sound actually in a car. |

If you want laid back think Infinity, DLS, Illusion, etc.. I found these too bright too. In the case of Inifnity I reworked the XO, in the case of Illusion we tricked the Alpine 650 to roll the hf off a bit.

I have heard polk in front with amplification. It was extremely bright at first. A lot of experimenting and tuning eventually managed to bring down the brightness level to a minimum. The question is, are components as effective without amplification?

| Senior - BHPian | I found the bass better controlled with an amp. Would have asked you to check out the Blau TH series as well but not sure if they are still available |
