The perfect solution with this is to get one of those new DVD players that play MP3/WMA on DVD... Alpine has a couple of models in their current range like the 9861 that do this... So the best of both worlds, compressed audio, large storage and low cost discs. Imagine having your entire CD collection on say 5-10 DVDs... and to boot, not having to buy an iPod, Drive+Play etc... A lot of new players from the likes of Kenwood etc have a USB port on the front/rear now that can (besides play from a USB thumb drive) play from a USB HDD... this is also a great solution as large HDD drives ae relatively cheap and the D-A-C process is only done once in the HU, rather than twice as is the case with the iPod. Also re the WMP issues you are facing, you may already have done this but try and update WMP, download any possible bug fixes / updates. I faced this problem long ago (just a couple of times) then it just went away after I updated WMP.

If you have USB port a 80GB hardisk will carry about 600-700CDs worth at VBR exceeding 250kbps.

| As such i dont have any problem carrying few cd in car.I am more concerned about naming files in output folder which at present only WMP v10 is able to do it though with some hiccups occasionally. And my WMP is latest one,version10. I also tried CDex to rip one cd and it did decent job though added artist name to each file before song name.I was not able to rectify it. Anyway right now both WMP and CDex (sometime) seem to be better option for me. And no upgrade of my ICE atleast till next yr....These r Home dpt's orders Thanx to all........ |

I use:"%1 - %2 - %7 - %4" %1 - Artist %2 - Album %7 - Track number with leading '0' %4 - Track Name When you first put in the cd, and run a CDDB query, it will pick up the artist & album name. these details will be seen in the appropriate fields in the main appln window. Edit the fields here if you need a different format than what it picks up. There is a '?' next to the Filename field, which will give you the options and the meanings. Let me know if you need more info. | |

| condor, does CDex expect a net based CDDB connection? EAC allows me to use the freedb database that is downloaded on my PC so even if my net connection fails I get the album info.

| Senior - BHPian | you can use both local and remote cddb. how's the db that you have downloaded, and how do I get a copy of it ? another point abt the filename after ripping - once the cddb query is completed, and the track names appear in the main window, you can select each trackname and edit the track name there. This edited name will then be used in the filename of the ripped track. I find this useful since I can remove special char's. Last edited by condor : 19th July 2006 at 10:04. |

| go to freedb.org and you can download the entire database from there. every month they post updates but since the music I listen to was all recorded before 1980 I dont really update often. you need winzip or unrar to decompress the database.

Thanx condor..... It really is a good software quite close to WMP for file names though i have to check the quality yet. You can also rename individual tracks by right clicking on tracks.I would want artist name to come after track name so i can edit songs which have artist name 1st and then track name. BTW i like ur id and lets hope i dont spell it wrong. Quote:

| Senior - BHPian | Guys I have about 12 GB of songs in FLAC file extension. I heard it and went mad. The quality is mindblowing. I would like to burn these 12 GB x 500 songs on CD's that my car can play. What would be the best way to do it? Would Navin's post #30 apply here?
