Use them in front stage !!! Its better

For your suggestion use two way good quality 6.5" components. And use subwoofer at the back.

5.25" Components in Skoda Door will sound pretty lean. So its better to stick to 6.5" components.

JB, I got Alpine comps in the front. in the rear I got comps using Alpine woofer mated to a tweeter (vifa or something - i forget) and a home made XO. the Subs are 2 Blaupunkt Bass tubes tucked into the sides so most of the trunck is still available. the amps are Alpine 340 and a home made sub amp. So far the only TBHPian to have seen this is Sam. dont laugh the home made amp swings a lot of volts and runs in a hot AB. I used old fashioned Hitachi Mosfets for the output (4 per channel).

I was going to use the Canton for the rear. Using the 8" to replace my Blau subs and the 130mm and tweeter to replace my rear alpine woofer and vifa tweeter combo.

that reminds me I dont need to change the Canton XO at all that need be done is bypass the HP section (350Hz) section of the 130mm midbass's XO. Then use the XO of the alpine amp to control the Low end of the 130 mm midbass.

So JB, I am not touching my front (6.5" Alpine comps). I am using the Canton to replace my Blau woofers and rear comps. so will the 130mm Canton fit in the Octy rear pod?

Navin,

You can use them in rear stage. The 5" midrange will fit in the stock location. and flush mount the tweeter in that panel.

Navinji, give em a listen. If I remember correctly, they use aluminium tweets. Usually, metal tweets can be a little edgy. That said, we have heard some nice metal tweeters as well. You will need to hear how well Canton have implemented this product.

I know you already knew all this... just thought I would reiterate cuz we have heard german car audio speakers and while accurate, they sound flat and clinical. While these are qualities when considering a studio monitor, I believe one needs a musical product for daily listening.

Still, do give them a listen and tell us how they sound.

Thanks JB, I needed an installer's opinion.

What you think about my idea about breaking up the Canton 3 way into a sub + 2way?

I am confident that I can build a tear drop shaped fiber box for the 8" (10" wont fit in my location). Have you seen the old Blau VRT 6.5? THe box was quite stiff partly thanks to the tear drop shape.

The Canton has a 350Hz and 4000Hz 3 way XO. I intend to leave the 4000Hz HP (tweeter) and LP (midbass) sections alone.

Then bypass the 350Hz HP components and not use the 350Hz LP at all. Maybe I can use the space gained (by removing the 350Hz HP and LP filter) to use better quality components. This waythe 5" wil be run as a midbass. If I find it getting stressed the amp's HPF can be used.

The 8" woofers will be connected to another amp.

I will rather use it as 3 way...and use a nice sub with them preferably 12" or 15"

no no no my son's bike wont fit then I have room for 2 0.5 cu. ft. (14 liter) sub boxes only. the tear drop shape not only adds stifness but also happens to fit into the niches of the trunk quite nicely.

In two 0.5 cuft enclosure you can have two 10" subs with a big smile on your face. You know what subs I am talking about.

Yes I do but here for 8K I get the 4" components and 2 8" subs.

if I were to do what you suggest, JB, I'd need 16K+ right? how much are the 10" subs? 8K each?

The Image Dynamics iDQ10 retails for INR 9410. As an audiophile, this is the last sub you will ever buy. In terms of SQ, we have used and heard subs twice the price but none can match the musicality and speed of the iDQ. That is the reason the iDQ, with its old school looks, still sells in large numbers in an industry where glitzy looks, oversized baskets and fat surrounds have become a norm.

Th IDQ10's need sealed enclosure from 0.3-0.6cuft. Needs 200Watts RMS. The ideal enclosure size is 0.5 cuft. 16Hz @ -3dB. The sub has decent sensitivity of 89.4 dB.

the amp i got is a 4ch amp bridged into stereo. puts out about 100W x 2 in bridge. I assume this as I only tested it's 4 ch. output which clipped at 14V (49W) into a 4ohm-1mh load.

If you have price and power constraints, I suggest you go for the Hertz ES200 subs costing Rs. 5140 each. The single 4ohm will work better with your amp. The specs are... 4Ohm SVC, 200w cont, FS 30Hz, 91dB/SPL, 0.5cuft sealed enclosure.

10K for 2 subs. will keep it in mind. i saw the cantons yesterday. I was not impressed but i figured i am getting 2 sats and 2 8" subs for 8K. the 130mm mid is the smae that they use in their 130mm 2way so i feel my idea of modifying the crossover will work.

unfortunately i am flying to singpoare so wont have time to pick them up and try them out for a while. also i have to build thoe tear drop shaped boxes.
