Default Which HU Alpine or Pioneer

Hey Guys,

Which of the 2 Head units would you guys suggest Alpine CDA-9835 or Pioneer 7750. Plan to install 2 sets of Kicker 6 1/2" components in the doors and a 4 channel Soundstream amp alongwith a 1 farad capacitor in my Getz. No sub for now but maybe in the near future as I need boot space.

Also Can anyone recommend any other brand which will give me good bass as I will not have a sub or how I can optimise the bass.

Default Alpine

I vote for Alpine, nothing to beat its richness of sound. Pioneer is too loud for my choice.

Hey Viper, are you getting the 9835 in India. If so, how much for? I ask this cuz though the 9833 was/is officially available in India, Supreme never imports the 9835 because it is almost the same as the 9833 but is more expensive due to the Biolite display. The 9835 gets my vote over the 7750... For front speakers, if you need a comps that can do deep bass (in a sub-less) install, look at the Alpine SPX-177 (the ones with the blue cone, made for Alpine by Vifa in Denmark. Now replaced by the current model which has a whitish cone and is made in China). The SPX mids can produce some serious sub-bass (read under 80Hz bass). Usually, midbasses that do low bass well, have problems with upper midbass and midrange. So In a lot of good comp sets, the midbasses will handle lot of power and have very fast snappy bass. Rest of the lower band should be left to a good sub that can integrate well with your front stage.

Hi Gunbir,

I am getting the 9835 in Bombay itself. Am actually getting it for a steal. It has been used for 2 weeks only. Was installed by me so I know the customer went in for the IVA-D901 which I installed for him and took this back in exchange. Am ending up paying just 11.5k for it. How are the kicker components as far as bass is concerned against say Alpine or JBL.

I guess you will be looking at the KS or RS Kicker comps. I suggest the RS cuz of the Tetolon tweeter (a DuPont material also used in our Hertz HSK series tweets). The KS is a cheaper set and has aluminium tweets which can sometimes be fatiguing.

I'have heard the RS65 comps sound nice. Power handling is decent at 100w cont but sensitivity is a tad low at 87dB. You will need a good amp to power these. How much bass do they produce, well that depends on how much bass is enough for you? Thats different for everyone. Although rated from 40-21000Hz, you will need to audition these yourself to ascertain if they produce enough bass for you.

Viper my father in law is looking for a 4 ch. amp that sounds nicer than the sony 504 but at the same price as the 504. so far i can get him a blau 250 for 2400 but that is 2 ch. if you cant get a better deal i'll get the 250 and run his rear speakers of the HU. His proposed install:
Alpine 9847, KCA420i, JBL 636 front and rear, blau 250 (unless something better shows up by tuesday).

Hey Guys,

How are the Canton Pullman Components. I am getting a set of 3 way components model CS 3.22 for about 8k. Let me know if it is worthwile or can I get something better in that price range here in Mumbai.

Also please forgive my ignorance but can I install the woofer from the components in the rear door and the mids in the front and do I need a 2 channel amp or a 4 channel.

Canton makes some very nice stuff. I dont know how they do today though. maybe gunbir will be more uptodate.

the rear door will not provide enough box volume and even if your woofer fits (depth might be an issue) bass will suffer.

In a Getz I am not sure if there is room on the dash. 3 way comps were ideal for cars like the esteem where the woofer was in the front door and the mid and tweeter in the dash pod. an alternate location is a rear deck where on can angle the mid and tweeter towards the listener.

the canton sells for about E130 = rs. 7K. you are getting it locally for 8K. if they are new i'd love them. i could replace the alpine comps in my octavia in the rear. :-) LOL

they are good components only where will they fit in a getz.
