Default Outrage as Jeremy Clarkson blows up £20,000 classic Routemaster bus with rocket launc

Jeremy Clarkson has come under fire for blowing up a rare Routemaster bus worth £20,000.
The Top Gear star dramatically destroyed one of only 500 of the famous red double-deckers still in existence in a huge fireball for his new DVD.
Footage of the explosion, set off by a rocket, is included in a trailer for the DVD on the Top Gear website.

Jeremy Clarkson is seen in the DVD blowing up the rare Routemaster bus with a rocket
The side of the bus has been daubed with 'Wasting space and causing jams in your community'.

But the spectacular stunt has outraged bus enthusiasts, who have branded it 'sacrilege'.

Just 18 of the iconic buses, which London Mayor Boris Johnson has vowed to bring back, are still in service around the capital.

Clarkson: The Top Gear presenter referred to the explosion as an 'accident'

Andrew Morgan, chairman of the Routemaster Association, said: 'This bus is held in great affection by the public. It was in service for the best part of 50 years and it's been part of everyone's life for so long.

'It's just sacrilege and a very sad thing to do. Why pick on a vehicle like that when you wouldn't do it to a classic car and there are more of them?

'There are plenty of other red double-deckers that he could pick on in scrapyards. It's typical Clarkson. He does things just to make a story to sell his video.'

Promoting the DVD, Clarkson refers to the bus explosion as 'a bit of an accident'.

He also blew up speed cameras with fireworks during filming.

A spokesman for company 2 entertain, which made the DVD, said: 'What Jeremy wants to blow up for his own, and viewers' entertainment, is up to him.

'However, it's a well-known fact that he isn't fond of buses.'

A Transport for London spokesman said: 'We don't agree with what Jeremy Clarkson has written on the bus.

'We are keen to see people transfer from their cars to buses and the Routemaster can carry up to 90 passengers, actually reducing traffic.'

There is a fine line between over-the-top humor and outright stupidity. I've always been a great fan of JC's vitriol, but this obvious "buy-my-DVD" stunt is sheer stupidity

Its a pity.I have travelled in those London Buses many times and even have replicas of the same.
JC is definitly to be penalised for this.

Guys lot of automobiles have been blown up in lots of movies / other programs in the past.

So why are we making a big deal out of this?

of course, most of us have played with the red Double Decker as kids (some play even now)

Its just another Jeremy's program, we might as well like it.

cheers:

Hahaha i think its great. London buses are a pain, especially those long bendy buses!!! On the other hand - nuthing like a nght bus to take you home at 4 in the morning!!!

eclectix 1st has a point. Theres lots of car, bikes, etc, that have been destroyed whist making movies and stuff.

Your going to buy it or downlod it or whatever so enjoy it. Its not really that bad.

Well I love Jeremy Clarkson but this is quite stupid. I work in the Bus Industry and this stunt has really incensed all the guys I know in our company! (I feel he wouldn't want to come near any of the bus depots, especially in London!)

Those double deckers was the cutest thing that ever happed to surface transport.

And, this guy blows one of those rare vehicles. How about if someone trains a rocket at his garage?

Haha, I`m sorry Bus Guys, but I think that its a "jolly good thing" the brit did. The double deckers are nice though, he could have blown a not so rare one. But apart from that, I`d be so happy if someone blew up some buses in Kolkata, preferably with their drivers and conductors inside!

This man can pimp his mother for money. Blowing up a bus is nothing in comparison.

haha, but cmon, is there any auto guy on TV who is as entertaining as he is? May and Hammond come close, but JC is the ballsy, brash, arrogant definition of one!
