The iconic 1965 Aston Martin DB5, which belonged to the late George Harrison (ex- Beatle) has been bought by an American collector at an auction. He intends to display the car at a show Concours d'Elegance of Texas and have people click photographs for a fee with this legendary car, that happens to be once a part of George's life . The proceeds will go for charity.
In 1965, The Beatles were at the top with " Yesterday","Help", "Ticket to ride", "Eight days a week" and other mega hits on the worldwide pop charts. The car is also listed as a “British National Treasure.”

Also news has come that Bruce McCalley, the voice of the Model T Ford passed away at age 86, on Feb 15, 2012. His was indeed the last word as far as the Ford Model T's were concerned and was President Model T Ford Club of America (MTFCA).Author of the 614 page book "The Car That Changed The World", he visited Dearborn, Michigan many times to unravel many old facts from the archives on this iconic car.

Here's a very good link for us to view old American car pictures. These cars are to be auctioned by M/s Dan Kruse Classics, Texas.
The oldest one featured is a 1901 Holsen Model 54.The pictures are beautiful, as the house wants to market its cars perhaps in the best possible way. Apart from the cars, a lot of exclusive car-related memorabilia are also featured for the auctions.

Here is a 1923 Reo Speedwagon now restored and in pristine condition. If one believes that the Woody's of the 1940's had lots of wood, see the amount of wood that goes to complete this 2.5 ton pick-up truck. The fuel tank is affixed on the place meant for the dash- much like our autorickshaws!
Incidentally, there was a pop group (more country) in the 1980's named Reo Speedwagon. They had hits "Shiny happy people," "Keep on loving you" and "Take it on the run."
More on the 2.5 ton truck here:

Another Car of the Week featured last week by Old Cars Weekly is a 1932 Buick.Makes a nice reading going down memory lane and knowing about how the 1932 model was improvise don its predecessor.

Default Classic Rally Cars in action

Dear Mods,

I had earlier posted this video under 'No broadcasts for rally this year'.
However, I feel that it would be more appropriate if the video came here. It is extremely rare that cars of the 1960s and 1970s are raced, far less rallied today. Here is one such instance of Classic Rally cars from the 60's and 70s in action in 2012 where their owners took the risks!

Here is a Video on Classic car Rallying action at Spa in Belgium in 2012. You will find many Porsche 911 Gr. 4 Rally cars, Classic Ford Escort RS's from different years, a Lancia Beta Monte Carlo, a Porsche 914 Rally version, a Ferrari 308 gtb Rally Version, Lancia Beta Group B Rally car, Saab 96 and many more.

Enjoy these beasts in action to get a sense of these classic machines at their very best.

A new California state law will exempt all pre- 1981 vehicles from vehicle emission inspection. California emission laws are among the most stringent ones ever on this planet ! The aim of the new legislation is to encourage the old car collectors in their passion and the message is clear - old cars form a miniscule portion of the overall car population and it hardly matters if emission checks are imposed on these. It is also acknowledged here that these old cars are very well maintained.
And here in Maharashtra, the Govt is charging a Green tax from 15 years or older vehicles. Retrograde and perverse thinking !

(1) This 1959 Rambler Custom Sedan was once a delight for its owner to drive but became unfit for driving, as its unibody underneath showed signs of aging making it unreliable. The car was grounded for a decade and later on done up in its present condition. It is an extremely rare surviving example. More on this link:

1959 Rambler Custom Sedan | Old Cars Weekly

(2) The Studebaker M 5 pick up truck of 1947 took four years (including weekends and nights too)to restore this pick up to the present condition. The owner says now if a "For Sale" sign is put up, it will be tough for him to face all those involved in its restoration. More on this link:

Car of the Week: 1947 Studebaker pickup | Old Cars Weekly

(3) The 1958 Buick story here is a bit different. The father-son duo restored the car with their likes on their mind. So the restoration work is not a 100% concours restoration. But it is a job well executed. The car has tons of chrome - perhaps chromework at its peak!

A 1929 Duesenberg for US $ 985,000. Thats the likely price the Bugatti Royale fetched about two decades back.

Pictures of a Morris showroom from Worcester (UK). The same showroom sold Morris cars, commercial vehicles and Wolsley cars. Strangely Austin and MG also a part of BMC, do not share the same showroom.

This week, the Old Cars Weekly features a 1964 Plymouth Fury as the Car of the Week. It has been restored by its present owner, the work commencing since 2008. The car comes fitted with as the article says "the famous push-button TorqueFlite three-speed automatic and carried an MSRP of just under $3,000".

Not exactly vintage, but its western pop trivia here: The Beatles have completed 50 years since the release on 5 /10 /62 of their first ever recorded single "Love me do", a simple ballad. It just reached # 17 on the UK charts but became the forerunner for this greatest pop group of all times, who soon created and rewrote history.

The fab foursome seen here above, walking across Abbey Road, where their favourite recording studio was located. This was the very famous cover page of their LP record album Abbey Road and featured a Volkswagen Beetle in the foreground.
