A 1903 Ford Model A supposed to be the oldest surviving Ford ever has been bought at a recent auction in Pennsylvania State, USA by the Ford Motor Co. Bill Ford the company's Executive Chairman said that the time was apt. Bill is incidentally the great grandson of the company's founder. Indeed very apt, as the year 2013 marks the 150th birth anniversary of the company's founder Henry Ford. It will be a year long celebration.

A 1957 DeSoto Firesweep in a miserable condition was resurrected and restored, as the car is rare and could fetch an handsome amount at the auction block. There were two donor cars for spares. The restoration was done in 100 days. it will be auctioned on Jan 18th 2013 at the Barrett Jackson car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The owners are sure of hitting the hammer starting with a six figure amount in US $.

Vintage and Classic car enthusiasts, please have a look at the post # 138 in the link below. A new year European calender shows many old classic cars and one vintage (a Traction Avant) car. For a change, the models are males!

Here is a real trivia. A 1949 Cadillac Coupe De Ville, never seen publicly since decades, will appear at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance during March 8-10, 2013. This is supposed to be the top rare car display Concourse in the world.
It was gifted by GM to Mr Charlie Wilson CEO, GM (1946-53) in 1953 and is the only survivor of the four prototypes ever built. Mr Wilson was the US Secretary of Defence under President Dwight Eisenhower from 1953-57 and was gifted this car in 1953. He drove it during his tenure as Secretary of Defence.

Many of these cars made it into India through the CBU, CKD and SKD routes.

The Los Angeles Auto Show of 2012 (Nov) had a star attraction.Though it displayed the latest from green cars to muscle cars and more the Lincoln display pulled most of the crowds.
The seven-vehicle Lincoln Heritage Display showcased immaculate vintage Lincolns ranging from a 1929 Model L Dietrich convertible coupe to a 1961 Continental sedan. This was a one-day-only media event on Nov. 28, 2012, and taken down before the public was admitted. The star of the display was a 1956 Continental Mark II spinning atop a carousel.Robert Ratinoff and his wife Nancy currently own the blue Continental that wowed crowds.
About six years ago, Ratinoff began looking for a Mark II. After an extensive search, his quest led him to a restored Mark II in Missouri that was painted an unusual shade of violet blue. Ratinoff purchased the 50-year-old car and had it shipped to his home in Southern California. It was only by carefully perusing the car papers, Ratinoff learned his car once belonged to Oscar-winning actress Elizabeth Taylor.

A new Model A Ford Museum — touted as the world’s largest public museum dedicated to the 1928 through 1931 Ford Model A — will have its grand opening ceremony on May 18 in Hickory Corners, Mich., from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The new museum is the result of more than $1 million raised by members of the Model A Ford Foundation Inc., which will celebrate the grand opening with representatives from Ford Motor Co. and several speakers, as well as several hundred Model A Fords.

Vintage Trivia-modelamuseumasm.jpg

The museum is on the lush, barn-filled campus of the Gilmore Car Museum, a growing Mecca for club museums building their own museums to replicate original dealerships of the represented marque. The new Model A Ford Museum is fashioned after a 1928 Ford dealership and features nearly 30 Model A Fords, including the first Model A built and given to Thomas Edison by Henry Ford, a Model A school bus and a Model A tow truck.

The new museum features a service and parts department complete with unopened Ford Model A parts. There are also other unique Model A attractions in the museum, including cut-away engines and various memorabilia.

The new Model A Museum’s ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 18, 2013 will take place at 11 a.m., with special guests and keynote speakers appearing. There will also be lectures, presentations, tours and live music throughout the day. The special event is open to the public with admission to the Gilmore Car Museum and campus at only $5 each — less than half the normal price. Those arriving in a Model A Ford will be given special parking near the Model A Museum and free admission to the entire Gilmore Car Museum campus.

The old car finds at French lake,Annandale, Minnesota is reported by Old cars Weekly. The cars are a treat to look at but their conditions are quite pitiable in almost all cases.
Mr Angelo Van Bogart reports the finds in his article "Under the Hood" here:

Just like the Edsel another famous Ford is the Pinto. It was a successful model, but became infamous for legal issues surrounding the safety of gas tank in the event of a rear end collision. At the heart of the issue was a cost benefit analysis done by Ford that showed redesigning the car to rectify the safety issue would have been costlier than paying off lawsuits related to deaths, injuries originating from Pinto collisions. And Ford decided to go with the faulty design!
