Actually the opening of the doors have nothing to do with streamlining. Since the chassis was a very radical tubular frame (to save weight), the sills became very high (encompassing the highest tube portion). To cut into the sill section to accomodate doors would have severly compromised structural integrity, so they had this idea of roof hinged doors, leaving the sills intact. Future projects with simiar configuration were rumoured to have been dropped after a famous actress of the time overturned the car and couldn't get out as the doors wouldn't open when upsidedown.

Great going guys!

Here's another angel from the glorious era... the gorgeous '55 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider. Didn't find the right pics which do justice to the beauty of the car!

Alas! how I wish we had access to such cars in India!

there was one of these Alfa's in Ooty - or was it a 124 Spyder?
cant remember. Maroon / Crimson car. Black convertible top.
owned by a prominent family there. indeed the scion of the family was some years senior to me in School and that car used to visit the School sometimes.

here are a couple - the Volvo 100 popularized by the "Saint" Series in the UK (played by Roger Moore) - 1960's - extremely stylish especially the fastback styling.
then the brilliantly evocative Maserati 350 GT - another gorgeous car.

And how can one forget the XK series from Jaguar.

The we have the delectable Alfa and Fiat Spyders, the pinninfarina bodied Peugeots and the Porsches.The Lancias of this period are also very pretty.

BTW what happened to the BMW 507 you got as a birthday present ?

The last car is a personal favourite can anyone name it ?
>>> wasif,

Is it the Pegaso? The grille looks similar to the Pegasos...

None of them are from the '60s but are worth this thread IMO.
