VIN is WBA5C37020D351955.

One website shows it as a 2013 manufacture (www.bmwarchive.org) while another one (www.bmwvin.com) shows it as 2014. Confused.

Thanks in advance
Hello There,

I have tried some options and I agree that the confusion prevails , I have also tried some sources on the internet to identify the actual character which defines the year , however not of much help.

I got to know that the car is 520 D.

The best possible option available for us now is to check the Form 22 from the dealer.

Hello,

I am looking to decode the VIn of an elitei20. However the VIn provided to me MALBM51BLEM052763 which is 17 digits and not 19. Could you still get the month of manufacturing.

Thanks in anticipation.

Unfortunately the 19th character is the month of manufacturing. To get the whole VIN, please see my earlier post:

Hey guys

Booked an Innova on 19/12/2014 and just came to know that the car has arrived. They gave me the following VIN

MBJ11JV4007501049

I read in the article that Toyota has 22 digit VIN but this is 17 digit VIN. Please help me decode it.

Thanks.

Hi Gaurav, please check your VIN number again. Ideally there should be an alphabet at the position no 10 in the VIN. In your case its 0(zero) which does not look right. Unless I am highly mistaken, your 2014 VIN number should be MBJ11JV40E7501049. That is instead of 0, there should be alphabet E.
Then the VIN number makes sense in following way:

Manufacturer: Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd
Manufacturer address: Plot No 1 Bidadi Industrial Area
Ramanagar Taluk
Bangalore KA 562109
Product type: Passenge Car and Utility Vehicle
Make: Not known
Check digit: 0
Model year: 2014
Plant code: India
Sequential number: 501049

Please note: I am assuming that Toyota still follows the same alphabet code, as it does in North America, when I say that E represents 2014.

You are right, maybe the VIN information in the article is outdated and that is why it says 22 digits rather than 17. However, the 10th character should be an alphabet by North American standards.

Also friends, decoding the VIN number is no longer an art. There are a number of online resources available already. For eg, in Gaurav's case all we need to do is google - VIN Toyota and ta da - http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle...yota/VIN_Codes or http://vindecoder.eu/check-vin/MBJ11JV40O7501049 .

So, if you feel that the article information is not matching your expectation please refer our know it all - google.

I understand that in the new code for Tata, N(12th character) stands for November so, I guess P stands for December.

Is there a separate VIN Decoder for Two Wheelers too? I tried to search but couldn't find.

Please Decode this VIN and inform me the entire Code:- ME4JF492ME8009927.

I wanted to create a New Thread, but Rules don't allow.

City Honda (2 Wheeler), Bangalore - Salesman tried to cheat me with this Vehicle. From the beginning, I was particular about 2015 Vehicle. I also inquired with the Salesman - How is it possible to get 2015 Vehicle within 5 days from Haryana to Bangalore? He gave me an affirmative answer.

And funniest thing is that he has collected the additional Excise amount Today. I guess the Dealer is stuck foot in mouth. After coming home, I checked that this is a 2014 Model. When I called up to the Salesman, he has asked me to talk to the Manager tomorrow. Let's hope, the Manager rectifies his mistake or misadventure to sell an Old Model at New Prices.

P.S - Can you make out the Month of Manufacturing also from the VIN??

Hello Jazz,

The 10th Char is E which should be 2014 as you rightly pointed out.
The 9th char M should determine the Month in this case , ideally this is the 13th alphabet.
There is a possibility (Iam not sure) that there was a halt in production for the two wheelers as well at Honda and if a month is skipped in between then we can assume M= Dec. Ideally December should be L.

The below link also says that the vehicle is Dec 2014

http://www.myvehicledetails.com/home/?page_id=4

I too was not able to find any specific guide for two wheelers and hence used the guide for 4 wheelers as a reference in this case and Iam uncertain about the authenticity of the information as well.

The best way to get this confirmed is by Form 22 which the dealer should have which is issued by the manufacturer.

Cheers,
pdma.
