| ![]() A friend bought a Swift day before yesterday and sent me the VIN to check the month of manufacturing. The VIN is like this *MA3EHKD1S00D51147*JH Here the last two characters (20th and 21st) should be seen instead of 10th and 11th. J denotes September and H denotes 2017 as per https://www.team-bhp.com/advice/find...anufacture-vin. Initially I got confused trying to decode the 10th and 11th number since its written that for new cars 10th and 11th numbers should be seen. Later I realized that although the Swift which is being bought is new, its actually an old car introduced in 2005 and follows the old VIN method. New cars mean the Ignis, Baleno, Brezza will follow the 10th and 11th character VIN decoding. |

| ![]() Took in my Terrano in for regular servicing + repairs to Shiv Nissan (Pune) Besides the horrific service (now they are the ONLY dealer in Pune), I was more horrified to notice the VIN is registered to some other person in their data base. Should I be worried? Is this database shared with RTO? Any legal implications? Am I unknowingly breaking any laws? |

Senior - BHPian | ![]() Hi RedTerrano, please check the RTO registration certificate/smart card. If the VIN number mentioned there is correct, you are the legal owner. Dealer or manufacturer database can have errors. Please send a written communication to them and have an acknowledgement. You can also tell them you may need to file an FIR if they don't correct and confirm. |

| ![]() Hello Team, Please treat this as urgent. My close friend had booked TATA ZEST from Concorde Motors Ltd, Bangalore on 26th of August 2017. We received VIN today 16th of September 2017 and it says MAT624051HLC02792. On decoding we found that its a March 2017 manufactured vehicle. Sales guys promised to deliver us a September manufactured vehicle. This is not ethical. Please suggest us how to deal with this situation. Regards, P21 |
