Default Honda City - If you aren't ICE, you can't ICE

Statutory Warning – If you aren’t ICE (Insanely Creative Ectoplasm) you can’t ICE

Disclaimer – I’m not responsible if your ICE budgets went astray or you lose precious brownie points gathered from your better half. Tread with caution. You’ve be pre-warned.

Here’s why I chose the tacky title

Honda City - If you aren't ICE, you can't ICE-bas-factory.jpg

What happens when you ask a financial analyst a six-figure budget to ICE your car after you red lined your budget in buying a 10L car? What if the financial analyst is your better half?

I leave it your creative minds to picture that one out. As for me, I knew right from the start that if I’d dare I’ll be all bare. So I rationalized my outings, shopped only during season sales and even sacrificed my gadget fetish. Being an audiophile my ears would refuse any sonic waves from an OEM setup. An upgrade was a given.

Auditioning set-ups, sourcing components, getting hold of a good installer is no mean task especially when you work nearly 12 hours a day with weekends taken away by friends and family. Thankfully late nights with team bhp came to my rescue. A fellow t-bhpian who specializes in custom sound installation was contacted and following series of phone calls, bbm’s, emails, discussions and auditions the deed was done.

Equipment List
  1. HU - Pioneer AVH-4390DVD
  2. City Facia
  3. Speakers - Focal 165 A 6.5” (2-way) - Front & Rear
  4. Power Amp - Power Bass ASA 600.4x
  5. Mono Block Amp - Power Bass ASA 600.1x
  6. Sub Woofers - JL Audio - 12” W v3 - One on each side
  7. Fiberglass sub enclosure
  8. Damping - Noise Kill
  9. Wiring - Street Wires & Illusion
I’m not really dwelling into the details for I wouldn’t want readers to fall asleep. So here we go guys...feast on!!

Thread moved from the Assembly Line to the Show-Off forum . Thanks for sharing!

Looks like a super setup you got there! Forward the wife a link to this thread, and she might *probably* feel better knowing there are a lot more nuts like you.

How about a review of the sound quality? What do you like and what you don't like?

I must add, the sight of an installer ripping apart & drilling into a brand new car is not for the faint-hearted. When I saw my Civic the first time, completely opened up, I nearly collapsed!

Know just what you are talking about. I was especially lucky that Senior Moderator Navin offered to help me out. His advice & guidance was invaluable.

As an Audiophile, you obviously know this better than an ICE noob like me does. Nevertheless, here's a tip : Keep tuning your system (as Navin says "play it by the ear") yourself, and with the help of your installer. My Civic sounded 3 times better after a month of playing around, than it did at the time of install.

Superb setup buddy. I loved the way the boot is setup & the lights and all...

How does it sound & most importantly, how much did it cost?

And I can guess its done by none other than Ramie, Sound Factor. I recognize his signature style - lighting, fibre glass enclosures & neat installations... :-)

Nearly escaped the kitchen sink once, unlikely to test my short-ball technique again

Already started composing a doc on the same.

Hence I chose to stay away from my bride, with a very heavy heart I must add

Looking forward for future T-Bhp meets to get to know all you guys.

Thanks for the advise will definitely work on that
Replies in bold. Appreciate you taking time to reply. How about organizing some mini-bhp meets (once a quarter or so). Newbies like me can get introduced to all you pros.

The saying that has been attributed to me is :

"Use your ears and what's between them".

Said this first, sometime in the early 80s at a CES in NYC and have repeated it like a stuck record ever since.

Your better half actually knows what your audio system costs? You are a lucky man.

The damping gives away the installer identity; in any case since you have no commercial interest with any of the brands installed there is no reason for you to withhold the installer's name.

BTW how do you like the Powerbass amp specifically the 600.4?

Arup,

Must say one of the finest setups I have seen on the T-BHP, impressive components. My special interest is the Pioneer HU, request you to either PM the details or post it here like the cost, the features, the response etc.

The rear looks in blue looks straight out of some sci fi set up.

Wow congrats on the fantastic setup, love the light effects. If its not an issue, do post where you got the setup done from, I am sure it would help a lot of us looking for good installers in mumbai, know where to go when we need something like this done.

one small doubt..noticed the damping sheet stuck on the doors. some professionals(WURTH) fix the sheets on the inside of the door panel not on the outer(like it is done here). does it make a difference?

Damping is best done to metal to reduce teh ringing. Damping the door panel (that plastic part that can be removed from the door) will also help as it add weight to the panel thereby dropping it's resonance frequency to an area where it is not so audible.

A heavy panel is a bit of a double edged sword: a heavy panel has a lower resonance freqnecy and also requires more energy to cause audible resonance but a heavy panel will also store more energy and this stored energy will slowly be released. However since most times the energy is released at a low frequency it is not noticeable.

How much energy (watts) do these effects consume?

Lovely set-up, congratulations. The sub and the speakers are probably the best in the business. I have a question. What is the gain setting you have kept for the subs? Does the mono have a low pass, if yes then what are the settings that makes the twins to fire deepest bass.
Thanks
