Default Subwoofer for a bmw 320d ! is it worth the risk ?

HI guys,

Before posting this: Moderators i have done extensive search on the site. and couldn't find any relevant information this topic.

I bought a 320d ce in August 2011. Since it is a CE the ICE setup is quite average i would say but does the job.

its only when i am in the mood or with friends on a saturday evening it feels insufficient.

Is there a way i could add a subwoofer to the ICE setup.?

From what i have understood a line level converter will do the job ? Will cutting the wires going to the speakers can bring errors in the car ecu / system ?

is it worth the risk

OR

Is there any other way out experts/gurus ?

Another suggestion for you -

Read up on E90post. I think even your CE has 2 bass units under the front seats. There were some people who had upgraded those to better units. That is one option to keep it looking totally stock.

Otherwise yes a line level convertor would work. If you are in Mumbai Ajay at 4 seasons audio is the man to speak to.

I suggest you go in for a DSP like the Rockford Fosgate 360 or the Audison Bit One. Line Output Converters give out strictly average sound quality and is not recommended unless you're on a very low budget, especially on a BMW.

No need to bother with any aftermarket processors. I guess you can upgrade the driver with factory replacement kits for BMW. Contact Ajay, he shall help you with this.

okay guys...

After a lot of thinking and getting confused over at team-bhp ( to much reading ) i have decided to plonk a 8 inch sub

What i have decided is use the existing JBL GT5-A604 amp from NHC and shift it to my bmw.

use Scosche line level converter.

please suggest me a nice subwoofer preferable 8-10 with premade enclosure below 12k

i would not like for a 12" because of space constraints

come one guys pour in you reviews

Polk audio vs jbl vs pioneer sub etc tc

<cringes at the thought of having aftermarket stuff spoil the sanctity of the car>
You can try changing the bass units below the seats. Will be more expensive but a better option and will not entail cutting of wires and stuff.

I still suggest you change the 2 bass units u der the seats to more powerful ones. You can get plug and play ones online or fit other ones and use your jbl amp to power them.

1. Get a technic harness
2. JBL MS8 Processor
3. SWS8X Under Seats
4. Speaker upgrade with tweeter door sills
5. Add sub woofer
or
6. Wait for updates in my thread!! 1 Month at least.

I'd suggest you the following setup:
Front speaker - Jenhert (Custom for 3er)
Rear speaker - Rainbow Coaxial SL100

alongside with JBL/ Rainbow amp. The whole thing should cost you around 2L.

Contact Arush @ Autopsyche. The best man for the job!

Cheers!

2 lacks on ICE .. thats insane according to me !

recently saw a kicker bassstation 10" and 8" retailing for 12k to 15k. basically they are all in one small bass units..

Havn't taken an audition but am getting inclined towards them.

Also jbl gto 804 with sealed inclosure + gt5-604 + sosche line level converter in doing rounds in my mind.

Any suggestions??

Hi Manyu,

How about the speakers? I'm pretty sure the stock speakers would not meet the power requirements of the amp, would your existing speakers fit?

Would such audio system upgrade not void the warranty?

Hi Manyu,

How far have you progressed with this upgrade? I'm considering a BMW X1 but have Focal 6.5" components and PolK 12" sub with 2 amps. Wondering if I can install these.

Okay guys,

Finally after one year of thinking and hesitating, i finally got a little brave and decided to take the plunge and installing a sub in my 2011 E90. I was very afraid for someone touching the electrical system of my car.

So two days before my b'day went to Auto Marc lajpat nagar..

Tried kicker 8" bass station 100w: This sub was inadquate lacked bass volume when kept in the boot of a german car.

Finally installed the JBL Bass Pro: The bass is tight and the volume quite adequate for my listing standards.

Pro: 1.No vibrations in bass.
2. Tight Bass.
3.Good Output.
4. All in one Sub

Cons : A liitle bulky and is not removable easily as per my installer.

All in all i'm quite happy with the install. so posting here .

Thanx
