Default Head Units Pre-outs Pre-out voltages

My search for a new head unit began few days ago and things got a bit muddled up when I got confused between specifications of different head units. I wanted to buy a HU which would have all the options so that I could add an amp, etc later.

Found a nice website where different concepts related to audio have been explained-

http://www.bcae1.com/ Check the scrollable list on the right side.

The cheapest head unit which has 3 pre-outs of 4V each costs around 6k. It has a Low Pass Filter as well as a High Pass Filter.

Car Head Units

Kenwood also has few head units which have 3 pre-outs-

KIV-700 | 1DIN Receivers | Car Electroics | Kenwood

KDC-X8016BT | 1DIN Receivers | Car Electroics | Kenwood

The above two have 4V pre-outs while the ones below have 2.5V 3 pre-outs-

KDC-U7046BT | 1DIN Receivers | Car Electroics | Kenwood (HPF&LPF)

KDC-U6046 | 1DIN Receivers | Car Electroics | Kenwood

KDC-U4549SD | 1DIN Receivers | Car Electroics | Kenwood (HPF&LPF)

KDC-U6046 and KDC-U4549SD look like they are the least expensive ones out of the Kenwood lineup with 3 pre-outs but they have 2.5V pre-outs.

JVC India website also displays few HU's which have 3 pre-outs-

The two below have 5V pre-outs while KD-R626 has 2.5V pre-outs.

1-DIN CD Receiver KD-R926BT | CD Receiver | Car Audio | JVC India (HPF&LPF)

1-DIN CD Receiver KD-R826BT | CD Receiver | Car Audio | JVC India (HPF&LPF)

1-DIN CD Receiver KD-R626 | CD Receiver | Car Audio | JVC India (HPF&LPF)

JVC KD-R626 should be the least expensive option out of all JVC HU's with 3 pre-outs.

Will add another post after I find out the prices of all these head units and High Pass Filter/Low Pass Filter Specification.

Got Kenwood KDC-U4549SD and JBL GTO 949 for Rs 9700 with bill and warranty today. JVC KD-R626 was also priced in the same range but I was more towards a Kenwood HU so got it.

most of the current generation amps have very high input impedance, hence it does not really matter if you have 2V or 4V pre outs. After all, you do have a Gain setting on the amp (which is actually a volume control) to compensate for the input voltage.

Most amps accept anything from 0.5V upto 5V. The preout voltage is just another marketing gimmick!

All amps have always had very high input impedance. How did you relate amp input impedance to the HU output voltage?

In some cases, especially SPL systems, the HU output voltage does matter. Of course, what you have said is true for most systems run at normal listening levels - the gain control in the amp enables one to set the amp output to desired levels even if the HU pre-out voltage is 2V.

Marketing gimmick it may not be, it is just another item of data about the HU. The higher numbers are good for whoever looks for largest numbers in comparisons.

sorry for bumping this old thread, but I cant seem to find any good SQ oriented HU's in sub 10k price with 3 preouts. Bluetooth feature if available will be preferred.

Some of the models mentioned here by the OP don't seem to have 3 pre-outs.
Any help would be appreciated.

Praying for better offers.

On the other hand, I'm looking at a set of Polk DB6501 components. How good are these? Can a basic HU provide sufficient power to driver them? Or is an amplifier required?
Prices online at snapdeal and paytm are ~6.5k wheras Amazon.in shows 14k. I enquired locally but could get any quotes. What would be the correct price?
