Some things I found suprising.

The car has done 82k kms without a tyre change!

You insist on basic ovals and also want the best sounding ovals. C'mon! You can't get both in one.
A good option would be the JBL CS series.
Sony speakers are improving slowly but not yet upto the mark.
Pioneer 07 range looks promising. But will be expensive and will take some time to land here. And a grey option will cost as same as a B&W JBL. So JBL would be still better.
If you just want a speaker to fill in the space, then you can opt for cheap, shiny chinese stuff. But be warned. It may even cause your eyes, ears etc go thump thump chill chill.

@Speedzak: Yes the tyres are surprisigly still good.

I am asking for ovals because the old pioneers will already leave a space which the round cones cannot fill.

when I say I want the most basic with good sound, I mean the one that is good sounding in its price range compared to other speakers.

Looks like JBL fits the bill. where can I find these in Ahmedabad? any ideas?

Sam should be able to help you out with the availability in ahmedabad.

The CS3196 are 6X9 ovals so they will fit in to the old speaker mount.

Pick up an Autocar and call the Gujarat Distributor who is in Surat I think. Mr. prakash from Jay enterprises will help you locate a dealer in Ahmedabad. Tell him you know me.

Just saved some bucks. The old pioneers are still working. The fault was with the wires. :P

Got the wiring changed for 150 Bucks and now the setup is rocking again.

thanks

Hi, am planning to buy a WagonR soon;
browsed through these posts and found them immensely useful;
my budget for an audio system is around 10K-12K ... please dont convince me now to extend it ..
well, from the posts I read:
- front 4" speakers GTO 426/427 or is there something better available now ?
- HU - confused between Kenwood, Pioneer and which model?
- rear speakers - GTO seems a good choice again.
now the issues for me are:
- I am located in Pune and want something with warranty and good price here itself.
- I dont know if my choices above fit into the 10K-12K budget, without going for the grey stuff.
is there anything I am missing out ?

Enjoy,
CheeseGuy

for the front you could get the GTO 427. which are 4 inch coaxials.going by your budget and the car this fits the bill.for the rears if you want you can get the GTO 937 if you dont plan on adding a sub anytime soon.if you do you could save up the cash and get 6.5 inch caxials instead.

for the head unit between kenwood and pioneer i would personally choose pioneer. you could get the 2950,3950 or if you want something better the 4950.

youll get the JBL speakers with a years warranty. if you want warranty with your headunit too youll obiously have to pay a little more than the grey market prices.

Pio HUs are much more with B&W (I'm told double the grey costs) and JBL also has a CS line that might suit your budget better.

I am located in Pune, and I am not familiar with the car speakers market here.
Car: WagonR Lxi (yet to be delivered from Sai Service, Pune)
HU: Pioneer DEH 2990 MP
Front: JBL GTO 427
Rear: JBL GTO 637

The car dealer agreed to install the HU, but wont install speakers not bought from them :(
What should I insist on to be installed as extra wiring to help in installing the speakers?
Should I buy the speakers first and get wiring done for them OR should I get the wiring done and then buy and install the speakers from someone else ?
I wanted to know where should I buy the speakers from?
... where to get them installed from ?

You could PM me or reply here.
Enjoy,
CheeseGuy

a) find a dealer that will co-operate. tell your dealer that if he does not want to co-operate you can find one that will. Remind him that he will loose commision on the sale of the car. Both Sai and VItesse in Mumbai will do this. In fact Vitesse installed a HU and speakers for a friend neither of which were purchased from the dealer.

b) If the dealer does not comply and you still need to use that dealer let him install the HU and then get your speakers installed outside. Speakers come with speaker wire. Use the suplied wire.

Installed the music system in my new WagonR from "Music Corner" Pune.
HU: Pioneer 3950 grey :(
Front: JBL CS2104
Rear: JBL GTO 937
...though I still think I should have gone in for the GTO427 in the front.
The total setup cost around 10.5K
Thanks a lot for those suggestions everyone.

Enjoy,
CheeseGuy
