One question here -

Is an amp required only if one listens music at high volumes? Or is it a myth?

Ya it requires , but it also depend how loud one wanna good some people get satisfied with the HU amp itself. Headphones can be a cheap alternative .

Its a myth. Its like saying you need an engine over 800cc only if you drive at very high speeds.

Like with a big engine, it is reserve of power that counts.

But Watts is not all. My home HiFi amp is a delight to me --- it is rated at 50w. My previous amp had had 150w rating and (of course I didn't realise until I got the new one) was rough and course sounding by comparison. And no louder. But about 1/4 the price :(

I'm still inclined to go ahead with my initial Blaupunkt setup without an external amp. Something to add later, perhaps!

Still would be grateful for feedback (not the audio kind!) on Blaupunkt speakers....

The 1202D and the 1204D were both dual coil. The GTO1264 (LE) is a single 4 ohm coil.

Apart from this there are some proprietory tweaks and constructional differences. Cosmetically and externally they are quite similar, except that the 1264 has the raised JBL lettering in gold(as opposed to chrome) and comes with 2 thingys in the box, that act like a protector/grille.

The 1264 is a better woofer and well, it's part of the 60th anniversary, for those that like those limited edition things.

Here take a look.

Noto,
How is he going to get ALL of that for 20-25K, with an amplifier?

And buttclencher, welcome. You will find a lot of info on the swift audio thread, all at your budget. In fact this post belongs there.

good deep bass
I assume bass is your priority. At the budgt however you can either gt bass down to 45Hz with some definition using 6x9s or bass down to 30Hz with less definition using a 12".

For the later...
HU: 7K (with 1 pre outs)
Amp: 3K (Sony 552)
front and rear coax: 7K
Sub in box: 6.5K (JBL GT4-12 or even the JBL tube at 7K)
wire (only one pair of RCA wire needed) and install: 2K

For the former...
HU: 8K
Front components: 6K
Rear coax 6x9: 4K
Amp: 7K
Wires and install: 3K
