Default 2-Din HU for Tata Aria

Hello Fellow BHPians,

Need your help to close down on the HU dilemma I am facing for my new Tata Aria Pure LX (Yes! the only version that doesn't come with stock audio).

The list of must haves is as follows:
  • 2-Din setup
  • USB
  • iPod / iPhone connectivity
  • Bluetooth Telephony
  • CD / MP3

I also have list of things that I would ideally want:
  • DVD Playback
  • Navigation
  • Android / iOS app control
  • Bluetooth Audio Streaming
  • Rear Sensor Screen / Rear Camera

Out of the wish list, I am ready to spend a bit extra for Navigation and camera functionality. While the budget is not a constraint, I am ideally aiming at HU under 30K. Any recognised brand is acceptable, I am not too comfortable with Chinese/taiwanese brands however number of features they may have.

I have till now only found Blaupunkt/Kenwood supplying HU with maximum boxes checked.

So, please help me out.

You may look into the storme explorer edition unveiled today. It's essentially a 1din flip out unit.
I was originally looking at a similar unit from kenwood, but was in tune of 50k.

In case you're considering a subwoofer too, this thread might help.

I would suggest you to go for Pioneer Head Units. There are plenty of them available under 30k and the price starts from 22k here in Delhi, which includes a 2DIN Touchscreen HU, but does not have BT and other functionalities. My friend had Pioneer AVH X1590 DVD with JBL Components in his old Swift. The setup cost him around 30k (including wiring) at that time, in around late-2012. He had added a JBL Bass Tube and Sony 4 Ch Amp, retained from his old Ikon. The sound quality was at par (if not better) with New DZire's OEM Head Unit, which by OEM standards, offers commendable SQ with tight bass. Unfortunately, he has sold his Swift recently and gone for a City VMT. FYI He has shifted the Basstube and Amp to his City now, exactly 6 days ago, on the last weekend.

Here is the link to official Pioneer Site: Click Here

Out of the various HUs available, I think Pioneer AVH X55 BTwould be the best for you.

The features are:
  • MIXTRAX (MIXTRAX EZ for Quick Non-Stop MIX Play)
  • Color Customization (5-Display Colors and 112-Key Colors)
  • USB Direct Control for iPod/iPhone and USB Devices (USB Interface Cable for iPod/iPhone Required)
  • AppRadio Mode (CD-IU201S Required)
  • USB Port (Rear)
  • AUX Input
  • RGB Input
  • DVD/CD Player
  • MOSFET 50 W x 4
  • 8-Band Graphic EQ
  • Auto EQ (CD-MC20 Required)
  • Sonic Center Control
  • JPEG Slide Show
  • Back-Up Camera Ready
  • Wired Remote Input
  • Display Off Mode
  • RDS
  • 17.78 cm VGA Touch Panel Display with LED Backlight
  • Built-in Bluetooth® Wireless Technology (Hands-Free Calling/Wireless Audio)
  • RCA Preouts x 3 (4 V)
So, I think it is pretty apt for your usage and budget. The Pioneer site says Rs. 28990 (Link: Click Here) for the same.

Attaching a picture of the same:

Any plans about upgrading the speakers/subwoofer/amplifier?

Naah. Aria has a dedicated spot for 2-Din setups so no need for flip out units. I find them to be flimsy and bit of jugaad, really.

Not considering immediately but maybe in future, who knows!
the car is for my brother who is not really an audiophile but wants uninterrupted music while on the move. The additional gadgetry (bluetooth, rear camera, etc) is what excites him more.

Will certainly check out the unit. Any idea if it will fit in dedicated slot of Aria?

Being a 2DIN Unit, I think it would pretty much fit onto the Aria's slot. You can check out the dimensions from the Pioneer Website (here) for more information.

Anyway, here is a small copy-paste work done on MS Paint to show how it will fit (Image taken from T-BHP Official Review):
