Hi,

I am in Singapore currently and would be moving back to India in a few days, here every car has a dashcam.

There are a lot of Korean models floating around. The market of car accessories is too good.

I wanted to carry a dashcam from here, was wondering whether it makes sense, or buying from India would be better.

http://list.qoo10.sg/item/IROAD-3300...VING/408698439

Here is one of the many, wanted to know what all are the things to be looked for.

Is mounting going to be a problem, I am planning to buy a swift.

Please do recommend some good model available in BLR, along with the price.

Regards
Shailesh

Ended up buying the SJ1000. Got it couple of days back and still exploring.

Issue 1: Lot of wobble/shake. Will try tightening the screws! I got a different type of car mount than the ones in the brochure/manual.

Issue 2: I read that it has a G Shock sensor. However I can't seem to find the menu option for it.

Issue 3: Read online something called "System settings". It says "Press Menu button once and then press it again to enter System Settings interface, which has a blue background". This doesn't seem to happen. Am I missing the obvious ?

More questions later. Thanks!

Buy a 150-200 USD DoD model. They are the best. Otherwise pick up mobius or SJ1000 from a local store. Lot cheaper than ordering online

Got delivery of my SJ4000 yesterday. Had ordered on Aliexpress and got a very good price of 109 USD with shipping using DHL. Got delivered in 10 days flat. Customs was USD 15 and the total damage was USD 125.

Can you share the listing's link? And also a initial review once you use it for a few days?

Here you go :

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/12MP-...861292472.html

Seems that the seller has increased the price of the product as well as shipping. Now the product+shipping (DHL) price stands at USD 132 and with customs duty it will be about USD 147 !

Keep exploring listings on aliexpress and you will surely find a good deal.

That's pretty low! Considering most of the sellers even on aliexpress are selling it for $90! What is the promised delivery time?

I ordered mine just now, let's see how long it takes for shipping.

Since its USPS, I fear cost benefit might be negated with customs :(

Me too. Same link, same seller.
Paid $81.98 including shipping. Now wait begins

Thanks

I think the USPS deliveries in india are handled by India Post so it should be relatively trouble free or too much of trouble!

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how much time does customs in Delhi take to clear items, my SJ4000 dash camera is with Delhi customs since 12th June, any idea if Intl EMS is processed faster?

I just checked the status of SJ4000 at http://ipsweb.ptcmysore.gov.in/ipswebtracking/, it lists "Retention reason : Prohibited articles" under extra information and Mumbai EMS speed post office as the next destination. Is this a reliable info\website? Has anyone faced this issue before? Thanks

-Umesh

Check the status here as well :

http://www.17track.net/index.shtml

If it says the same, call those office guys up. Most probably you'll have to submit purchase proof (paypal/credit card receipt) after that they'll clear it

Yes, i checked it there as well, however it says "2014-06-12 14:23, INDIA, DELHI, EMS SPEED POST CENTRE, Record item customs information (Inb), Air", which is same as the China Post EMS status. Now, I'm not sure which one is correct\updated.
