Any suggestions on how to get a vibration free dash footage? My SJ1000 will be a dead investment since i wanted to use it primarily as a dashcam during long drives
I myself faced this issue. At first I tried various paper chips here and there, but it didn't help. I found that my dashcam vibrates mainly near the joint of the two pieces of dash mount. So, I have completely wrapped the two parts (near the joint) tightly with brown colored one sided tape (not the SJ1000, but the mounts). Now, it works like charm. Hope this helps.

Can you post a few pics of how you have applied the tape? Would be helpful

Secondly, check if there is play between camera and mount, if so, insert a small paper piece for tight fit. Usually takes care of all but the most serious vibrations

I have tightened all the screws

The vibration is in the last part which holds the camera. It is the L shaped attachment where one leg of the L is fixed to the suction mount and the other leg holds the camera with 3 locking pins. It is this part which holds the camera that vibrates

I'm a big fan of time-lapse and the Kolar-blr ride is really nice. What's that pocket rocket that gave you company after the toll gate? Is it due to the time-lapse that it's tail lamps looked as if the brake is always pressed?

Thanks! You mean the Ford Figo ? That is KiloAlpha.

Interesting observation. It does look like the brake light was always on. It can't be because of the timelapse because there are other cars in the clip where you can see the light turning on and off...

I have ordered SJ1000 via aliexpress through this seller. Second time I am ordering something through a Chinese seller. First time was an inexpensive battery (dx) that I never received. Lets hope I receive this one though. Hoping Indian Customs doesnt make me cry much. Keeping fingers crossed!!

Would like to thank Tanveer for the wonderfull review. Though I was tempted to order the 4000, but I had already gone over my budget so did not want to stretch it too much.

EDIT 2 : Also wouldlike to know how does Aliexpress work? As per the email, the item has been shipped but as of yet no money has been deducted from my bank, I used a debit card?

How long will the battery last for sj4000/m10 in 20s time lapse mode?
Will the camera/screen stay on for the entire duration of time lapse?
I am a big fan of time lapse and my Panasonic point n shoot switches off and switch on for each shot of 30sec or more time lapse. Would like to know if SJ has similar feature.

OK. So many of us are happy with the SJ1000 camera itself (including me), but the car mount is terribly designed and quite flimsy. While browsing for better mounts, I came across Thingiverse where someone had designed and built this cool holder which seems to solve all the problems. The guy had uploaded pictures of the finished product as well as the .STL file.
So I decided to give it a try. Located a 3D printer and got them to print it up using ABS.Will be picking it up today. I'll post pictures as soon as I get back.
Will post all the details too.

So this is what the printed part looks like.

Since it was printed at medium resolution, the surfaces are rough. However a bit of sanding before spraying with a matt black paint should give a good finish. I've also attached a picture of what the final assembly will look like.

Will post pictures of the finished component and the final assembly once I've finished it.

Excellent. I thought 3D printers were extremely rare here. Typically whats the cost of getting such a mount printed?

That's what even I thought! But if you go to a site called 3D Hubs and search, it will throw up the names of all 3D printers in a 10 km radius of your location. I found about 8 printers close to my location. I chose the nearest guy who prints using ABS. Since it was the first time, I placed the order through 3D Hubs, so there were some additional charges. Later when I contacted the printer he said the next time I could contact him directly. It cost me Rs.1020, but it can be done for far less now that I'm in direct touch with the printer.

Completed the painting and assembly. Extremely happy with the set up. No vibrations and more importantly the LCD display is clearly visible due to the hood shading it from ambient light. Also all the buttons are easily accessible. Here are some pics.

I have ordered Sj4000 + Car Dash Mount via DX.com;
296552 Universal 360 Degrees Rotation Suction Cup + Tripod Mount for
Gopro Hero 4/ 2 / 3 / 3+ - Black 1 4.29
288812 SJCAM SJ4000 1.5" TFT 12.0 MP 2/3" CMOS 1080P Full HD
Outdoor Sports Digital Video Camera - Black 1 76.63
-----------------------------------
Total is USD 80.92.

Yesterday I get a "collect your order" note from Postal department, with the full value as Rs 8000, rate of duty as 41.492 and amount of custom duty assessed as Rs 3319 + Rs 30 = Rs 3349/- . I will be going to the post office today to check up, but I understand I have to pay additional Rs 3349/- customs duty. Isn't that way too much?

Can anyone share a link which displays the amount of custom duty that can be levied. Also, as per the current RBI conversion rate of INR 62.13, the total should work out to Rs 5027.56, so am not quite sure how the figure of Rs 8000/- came up.

You have to contest the duty claim. They have put cost as 120$. You have to go with proof of payment, and contest the claim. This is the oldest trick in customs book. Ask for more duty.
According to the law, you can contest duty claimed, and the onus is on customs department to prove that you paid more.
