At some later stage please change the HU. You get a scosche panel for the civic, that allows you to fit a regular HU. Just a suggestion.
I agree with you on that Sam, that is the only weak link in the chain now. I am waiting to lay my hands on a good two din DVD player with GPS capability. I guess I will have to wait for it for a while for GPS to mature in India.

How about Delhi and all?
Scary

The RHD version (not Scosche, this comes from Japan) is available through our dealers in Delhi. The price is Rs 12500/- (expensive, as JB said)

Damn!
Wish I had enough money at my hands. sigh!!

Anyways, like what I have read on speakers till now, tweeters need to be aimed as much towards the ear as possible. But in the civic, the dash speaker place is at the edge of the windscreen aimed directly towards it.
Will that compromise somewhat on sound from the front components?

Red face

LOL, I'm sorry if I made it all sound that way.
This isnt my car. It's just a favour for a very dear friend who has out his trust on me to put together the audio for his car.

Dad pays for civic. But not for mods as he likes everything stock and OEM spec.

Basic rule is to aim the further tweeter such that it appears on axis, and unobstructed by any objects. This is possible by mounting the tweeter in kick panels, door panels, A pillars, RVM insides etc. In some cases, the tweeters have a stalk which allow them to be mounted such the tweeter can be mounted on the dash, and yet aimed towards the listening area, rather than up into the windshield where it scatters and makes a mess.

ok, the thread has been dull for some time now... but my mind has been actively racing on newer ideas... hell.. why am I so short of time...

Recently few of my friends flew in from Delhi for the Iron Maiden concert and man they were so pleased to hear the CIVIC ICE...
After spending so much generally I would not be surprised by the usual appreciations but this was coming from the hard core music enthusiasts who themselves have so much of high end equipment!!!
The Brahma sub got a specific appreciation as the cleanest car sub they have ever heard.

But at the same time the limitations of my OE HU are more and more becoming a concern. I guess phase 2 of my ICE is not far away when I take next leap into the In Car Entertainment arena...

Recently I am toying with this idea of having a Carputer in my car to start with it will help me get over my OE HU issues but going ahead I can expand it to so many things...

So I have a question for the gurus - for super clean SQ is it better to go for a standard (good HU) or I can achieve the same through a Computer sound card? I have read about lot of multi channel PC Sound cards/software which allow advanced tuning capabilities, but is the quality upto the mark?

Based on the response I would probably go for one of these solutions:
1. 2 din DVD player HU with (fixed) touchscreen or
2. 7" touch screen with a carputer and all accessories (GPS, OBD2 reader, etc will follow).

What say???

I would vote for a 2 DIN player anyday...because maintain the carputer will be a time consuming job....and you can get good 2 din HU these days.....

for a 2- din I would vote for alpine with a pxa processor which can extra the fullest from your setup.....

I hear that prices have fallen considerably recently and the same can be had for as low as 3k. Can anyone tell me where can I find this in Bangalore (and at what price)?

Default Which stereo to RCA cable

Another questions for the audio gurus...

I am planning to use ASUS D2X sound card in my car.

It has 3.5mm Stereo output plug, so I would need either
A 3.5mm stereo to RCA cable (with 3m cable) or
A 3.5mm stereo to RCA splitter and a long RCA cable

Please advise what would be better.
It also needs to be noted that this sound card has the output plugs very close to each other (look at the picture), which means 2 plugs with fat pins cannot be plugged next to each other :(

Also please advise that considering my setup (Audison LRx4.300 & LRx1.400 + Hertz HSK165 + Adire Brahma 15" Sealed Sub) which RCA cables should I go for? Currently I am using Scosche RCAs from my HU to amps.
I do not want to unnecessarily splurge on the cables but I hear that at least decent RCAs are a must. so please advice.

Incorrect assumption - you are talking of pretty much standard components here, no 'fat' pins. All 3.5mm 'jack' plug outer dia is about 10mm max. (they are either hex or round) so there should be no problem with the stacked sockets. Ditto for the RCAs shown. And, once mounted you are unlikely to access the plugs even occasionally.

As for the cable, use simple logic - the least number of connections in series will give the least problems. So a cable with a jack on one side and RCAs on the other would be most appropriate.

You may go in for Belkin RCAs.

3.5mm to RCA.
Available in the USA for about 10-20 $ i guess

Or Contact Smokin on the forum for the same.
