Samsung launches Connect Auto: A smart device connected to the OBD-II port
Samsung revealed it's plans on future car technology with "Connect Auto" at MWC 2016. The project is basically a smart plug, which one can connect to the OBD-II port of any recent car.
The small device will be based on Tizen OS and KNOX will keep the data locked. Once the device starts pulling data from the OBD-II interface, it can give the user driving suggestions, fuel economy tips and diagnostic & repair warnings as early as possible.
The Usage-Based Insurance (UBI) feature can also be used to feed information to insurance companies for better offers, if the user enables it. Trip and driving data can also be aggregated and emailed as a report or exported, for detailed analysis.
The device will be equipped with technologies such as GPS for location accuracy and LTE. This means the user would need to get a separate data plan for the same. Plus, there is also Wi-Fi on board, which can share the LTE connection through a hot-spot for passengers to use.
