Is the WorldSpace transmission system being turned off in entirety?
Does this news mean that all beams will be turned off or just the one for India?
It does not quite make sense to say India Subscriber Business is being discontinued. What about others who bought a full subscription in, say, Singapore or Thailand and are visiting India?

Hehe, I'm lucky I guess! Like a true bargain hunter I did not renew my subscription in October! Just waiting for a better deal!! And now they are winding up!

Default WorldSpace Switching off from 31st Dec 09

I heard this new on Zee Business. They are shutting Indian/Asian operations.
As per the channel 90% of customers are from India. I too had one and the renewal was in Nov. I postponed the renewal for jan 10. Even last week too i got a call for renewal. Just lucky that i didnt pay.

Anybody in BHP paid renewal ?

Is it really true?
I know the American division has already filed for chapter 11. But India division was spared.

Boy! I was about to renew my subscription..

This is a very sad news.

WorldSpace Inc Announcement

This has saddened me a lot. I loved it. Really feeling bad to see it go.

The prospective buyer is not interested in Asian operations.

I hope XM or Sirius radio buys the india division over. They have some fantastic channels and great portable devices for the car. The car radio market is soo much bigger in our metros, I'd love to have satellite radio in the car!

I guess they have left no room for any reconsideration. Which is what I was told by the customer care. She said no hopes :(

Apparently, the main global website message itself is the source of information for even the India division. They have not been told through any other means.

You get to watch the DTH and not to the radio channels. BTW in case somebody who has the BPL receiver the old one with/out speakers and now wanting to discard please let me know. It is required for the store inventory for a missing set. Would not mind paying the shipping charges.

Sir Alec, call the raddiwalla/bangarwalla before the 31st and he will surely give you good money cos its still working. I was thinking of this but then realised I still have 8 months of subscription left. So what if worldspace continues for some reason. It's catch 22 situation for me so to speak.

@WN, will help if you can specify the model. There are different BPL models without speakers .. Diva, Celeste etc
