Here is comes again...Dr. Deralte

About the Band-Frequency-Q Factor it is a paramatric eq.

In this there are three part first the freq and the other is the q factor and the last is the level.

The band is the part of which spectrum of sound you wanna choose which HU has i.e. High, mid, low.

So total there are 4 things.

Band (low,mid,high)
Level (how loud or low you wanna set the freq)
Q (the spread how thin or wide do you wanna have it)
freq (which centre freq you have choosen.

This diagram will help you understand a little more..

THe 2n means to narrow and 2w means to wide.

I have the manual and it has the graph. But the thing is, when I change these settings, I find little/no perceivable change in the audio output. Maybe the track is too dynamic and the audio I chose was bad.
The band selection is ok. But how will the sound be affected based on the Q factor and frequency??

At present the HPF in the HU is set to 80Hz.

@DerAlte, can you please post the link of that Pioneer settings thread. I am not able to get it on search.

What are the settings for Low/ Mid/ High in the audio menu when you are changing the Q and/ or frequency in this menu?

There are two settings that you can perform with the Low/ Mid/ High menus.

One is to increase/ decrease the level of low/ mid/ high, i.e. Low +2, Mid +3 etc, and the second is changing the Q or center frequency, i.e. Low 80 2W, Mid 1k 1N etc.

So when you are playing with the latter settings, what are the level settings of the corresponding frequency band?

From what I usderstand, you meant the Custom Equalizer settings??
I have it like this: High +3 Mid +1 Low +2(or +1 sometimes)
and in the Freq settings I have
Low 80Hz Q2W
Mid 1Khz(I think) Q2W
High 10Khz(Not sure) Q2W

Yes, thats what I meant.

If Low/ Mid/ High is set to 0, you will hear no differnce in sound when you change the center frequency or Q. If it is +/ - 1, there will be a mild difference, and sometimes even this cannot be heard if the speaker is not producing that frequency very well. For example, if you have a setup that just has 2 pairs of coaxes in the doors and no sub, and if you set the center frequency to 40Hz and play with Q, there will not be much audible difference.. and more so if the track you are playing does not have 40Hz information, like a vocal track. In your case, since you have High at +3, if you change the center frequency from 10kHz to say 6kHz, there should be a very prominent change in the way the highs sound, with regular music.

OOps!! My mistake. The settings are like this
Low +3 Mid +1 High +2 - almost the 'u' shaped eq-curve

I have the new fiesta HU with MP3 compatibility, Aux in. I want to add a amp, Sub and may be change the rear speakers too. The stock front speakers sounds good and i dont want to change them. Also the stock HU looks neat and i dont want to spoil the integrated look of it, i kind of like it very much

Guys can you tell me if the stock HU allows me to add an amp. and also please tell me some options for the amp (would be really helpfull if they are kenwood/Sony) My budget for the Amp will be 10K

And also for the rear speakers, is it worthy changing them to JBL 5x7's or shall i retain the stock one's? Right now i do not hear much from the rear as the front speakers are good. i would prefer to have 6x9'

Yes u can definalty go for Amp. Also try to change the rear speakers as they are week and adding a new Coaxl will make a hell of a diffrence, but only if u dont want to have Comps in front. Comps can thange the way u listen to music. Even i had company fitted speakers in front in my Fiesta till the time i upgarded to Hertz comps...and man i tell u things have changed after that. So think about it. Otherwise add the rears and a decent amp, and it will make u .

Cheers

@nitinralli - Thank you very much, But i have a few queries.
Are you still using the Original HU?
What is the size of the comps that you use in the front?
Are you having 6x9's in the rear?

I have changed the HU to Pioneer 6050, with the Hertz DSK 165 in fronts and the rears are Sony explode 6*9 but they are running on the HU and not the Amp. The AMP (Sony 4 chl) is running the front comps and the Sub in the boot. They produce a decent sound.

If you amp has speaker level inputs you could connect it to your OEM HU. Few OE Hus have more than 1 pre out.
