Here is the product page from Alpine. It is a nice looking HU, with an odd placement for the dial.
As far as I know, No one has bought a iDA-Xxxx in this forum and I have not heard anyone in India with this HU.

I was going to buy one of these however I dont have an ipod and buying a ipod just for this does not justify buying this HU - hence the 9884.

From what I researched. The sound quality for the iDA series is as good as the Alpine 988xs. These HUs also look much better also.

And like Navin said CDs are getting outdated and iDA type HUs are the thing of the future.

- Has only 1 RCA pre out
- Any idea about the price in India?
- There isnt even a slot for a CD
- It is USB compatible however much better mated with an iPOD
- There is the more expensive iDA-X200 and iDA-X100 with 3 pre outs
- NA in India - If anyone going to US ask them to buy it from Techronics, good pricing on this site.

I am trying to find out if these units are available in India now.
By the way, the UK version of this HU looks even better with the greenish display. Will suit perfectly for my Baleno dash.

phantom76 looks good and will go well with any Dash the x100 display is even yummier

Here is linky to entire iDA range
Hope this was helpful.

Net Net If you dont like/use CDs, and if you have someone coming back from US ask them for a Alpine iDA

Having a CD player gives you the option of listening to your friend's CD.

HU's would ideally have a CD player, big 400GB+ hard disk, a 3.5" LCD tilt-screen (eassily manageable on a 2 DIN HU) and actual buttons (not touch screen) for the frequently used controls (Volume, Fader, Forward, Reverse etc..).

This way you can rip all the music you own (lossless) on the hard disk. Still play an occasional CD and manage the player without taking your eyes of the road.

With a 3.5" screen you have enough real estate for GPS a reverse camera and more, tilting it and enhance daylight use.

But you "Dont always get what you want"...:-(

IMHO, we are getting there with USB Head Units. Now a days 16 GB Pen drive costs just 3.5k and 8 GB costs 1.5k. And are super easy to handle.

For those who can live with MP3s, thats 3 - 5 thousand songs (Much more then I have on my PC).

Or a HU with Open Source firmware will do...

We can hack FLAC on that ourselves.

Sounds like separate flap doors that Einstein had for his dog and cat.

Why not a PC running Linux with a conventional HU front plate in 1DIN size? Actually, this was made about 6 years back, minus a CD drive - and then everyone complained that it couldn't play CDs!!! You can't satisfy everyone - predictably it did not reach production.

Or is hacking the main objective? ;-)

1. the noise floor in a moving car might not dictate the using of FLAC/ WavPack/Shorten/etc...
2. If you really want lossless in a car an ipod with Rockbox or even Apple Lossless might do the trick.
