Thanking all for the providing reviews, prices and features. It's time for me to say goodbye to my Sony HU (Front USB, Rear Aux). I wish to upgrade within the budget of 10k for the HU considering the following features:
Mp3/ CD playback
USB (Rear, the wire one; I don't like the front USB)
Aux-in
3 pre-outs
Bluetooth or DVD (Optional, not must; but icing on the cake if fits the budget)

On the basis of the feedback provided by fellow members and further study, I have shortlisted the following:
Pioneer - 5050 (Rs.5,800)/ 6050 ( The normal single din and single din with DVD)(Rs. ???)/ 7150 (Rs.9,000)/ 5190 (Rs.8000)

Kenwood KDC-BT7539U (Rs.12,490), 6539U (Rs.9,000)

Blaupunkt Hamburg MP57 (Rs.9,900)

I'm thinking of Kenwood 7539 as it also has audio streaming from Bluetooth device, which is not available at this price in any other brand AFAIK.

1. Please suggest the best HU amongst the above mentioned which falls within 10k; prices mentioned have been sourced from this and other threads.

2. Is it possible for the HU to support a woofer upto 1200w WITHOUT amplifier? If yes, then I'll stick with my old JBL 210w and buy a woofer. Do suggest one.

2. I am planning to get Kicker 6930 300w Co-axial for the rear for their Bass (I won't if HU is able to support woofer without Amp). I'm yet to hear Polk Audio's 300w co-axials, are they better than Kicker?

3. For the front, I want plain crisp sound and not too much of Bass. My friends are suggesting Alpine. Suggestions please.

4. I also want to know what we mean by "Bluetooth Adapter Ready" in Pioneer?

Thanks
Tanveer Singh

I am not an audio expert, With my limited knowledge here are my suggestions.

1. HU - Pioneer Head unit within 10 K are reasonable. 6050 should be good. it has a read connected USB( cable one). Has sub out also. New 2009 series pioneer HU dont have a SUBOUT. I have used this in my prev safari and it was very good.

2. Sorry not much idea to comment. I have heard Polk and it sounds good.

3. No doubt, Alpine is clear and good, but might burn a whole in your pocket. Since all you need is just simple clear sound, a JBL Coax might do the job and will cost less as well.

4. Bluetooth Adapter ready - You need additional adaptor something like CD-BTB 200 ( Pioneer) to have your bluetooth connectivity setup. Normally these adaptors cost close to 7K. this will vary based on model/ make.

It would not be feasible to power your SUB directly from the HU Preout. You would for sure need atleast a 2 Ch amp.

hope this helps.

Thanks Vijay. But what is this subout?

Moreover, owing to Independence Day, the grey market is running short of stuff.

Sub out means there is a dedicated pre-amp output option on the HU that can be used to connect to an amp and then further to the sub.

thats perfectly right. With the 2008 Series, you get 2 or 3 preouts HU, In case of 2 Preout, the rear can be swapped between ( Rear / SUB). So you have an option to control the SUB from the Head unit. Amp is a must however.

But with the 2009 Series, 2 preouts lets you only connect front and rear. If you are to connect a SUB, you will need to connect an amp to the rear out. However you have no control on the SUB interms of controlling Reverse / Normal, or the SUB output range.

Hope this clarifies.

Thanks Vijay and Shreyasma.

I got the price for 8850 @ Rs.10,000 and 6050 Single Din @ Rs.7,900. But this 7150 seems to have done some magic on me, I love it. I got the price of Rs.8,900 for this.

I heard Alpine speakers in my friend's car today and was completely bowled over by the clarity, they were able to produce decent bass too which I wasn't expecting at all.

So, what should I go for? I also have the choice of Blaupunkt Hamburg MP57, which is a bluetooth one and retails for 9.5k.

Confused!

@tsk13. End of the day the choice is urs. Go with the one that you feel to be sounding good and what you feel to be VFM. Probably I would have missed it, but whats ur budget. You said 10 K for the HU. any additional budget for the speakers / amp etc.,

Please note that its not just the speakers but also the install that contributes a lot to the entire quality. Please also spare some budget for the install.

Try posting in ASK the GURU's section. Do this at your own risk. Your budget by all means would get inflated. . But you would have loads and loads of suggestion from our ICE guru's.

you love the 7150 so why are you frustrated/confused?

I've heard the Hamburg and 8850 and both are good. the Hamburg looks neater. However I have not heard the 7150 so canoot post an opinion on this HU. However if you like it go for it. It is your Stereo.

Finally upgraded my Head Unit last sunday!

Pioneer DEH-5150 UB - 6,300/- (after exchange for my old DEH-2850MP)
Blaupunkt GT4 MKII - 3,200/- after exchange for my Old 2 Channel Amp.

I am loving the music so much that I have reduced my cruising speed to 40kmph & permanently driving (well, most of the time) in the left lane so that I get to enjoy the Music for more time!

Cool Panasonic CQ-RX322W USB CD/MP3/WMA

I bought Panasonic CQ-RX322W USB CD/MP3/WMA from AutoShop, Kormangala.

I already had JBL GT5-963SE in rear and Sony Xplod in front.

There is no details of this Head Unit anywhere in Team-BHP

The head unit is great! Very crisp and clear sound. Delivers great Bass too. Had great fun trying out all genres like Rock, Osibisa, La Bionda - High Energy, Santana, Techno, Benny, Bollywood, etc.

SQ is needs change for every genre to sound right!

I have speaker boxes and sound very punchy. As mine is Zen volume of 33 is perfect for real-punchy sound, also speakers don't give up. After that a little jarr kicks-in. Need to lower the bass to sound right.

Next will be to upgrade front speakers.

Overall for ard 6K with B&W (2 years) having most of the features, i think its a great buy!
