Doubt you will get all that in an HU within 8K. 2DINs are costlier.

Check up the Kenwood India website - the ones to your specs will cost at least 12K. What you need is an HU that has 3 RCA-outs to connect the Front, Rear and Sub amp channels.

Edit: Someone is selling a Kenwood x994 in the classifieds, and there are also a couple of Alpine 9887s. The x994 has BT built-in and has very good SQ. The Alpines are even better, though they don't have BT built-in

Perfectly fine.
You can buy it for < 5k off ebay, w/ B&W. So try bargaining at local stores.

1. Pioneer P80rsii around 19K in gray
2. Alpine 117, 19,700 with Bill and warranty
3. Clarion DXZ785USB, nothing as they are no more in sale/production. Look around in used audio section in some international websites.

Some modern ipods have trouble charging on certain HUs. I have not tried this particular JBL HU so the best advice would be is to try it and see.

Here is a small update,

I've recently installed a new Kenwood HU, KDC U449 in my Baleno. The best thing about the HU is the price and the performance for that price. Following are the pluses and minuses of the HU IMHO,
+ve:
+ Price, for 5.5k I think it's a steal.
+ Decent Audio Quality, I'm pretty happy with the audio quality actually.
+ Reads from USB (pen drives etc. FAT32 formatted)
+ Plays iPod/iPhone etc thru USB (you can control the iPod from the HU or even from the iPod control itself)
+ Quite a few equalizer tuning options (obviously not time alignment and stuff)
+ Rear and Subwoofer outputs are switchable for the 2nd RCA. You get a separate menu for setting the Sub level/phase/equalizer etc once you select the Sub option for the 2nd RCA output.
+ There is a front Aux input also for other sources.

-ve:
- Only 2 RCA outputs (but luckily Rear/Sub switchable)
- No option to skip folders except for taking the long route of using folder browsing options. Not very user friendly IMHO.
- No ATT option on the HU, although it's there on the remote.
- Front USB, I like the rear USB options as it helps keep the front clean.
- Not at all a big issue but no option to control CD changer(incase your car already has a Kenwood CD changer like mine has)

All in all, I think this HU has all the traits to be one of the best budget options. I've not heard JBL 555 but even compared to my costlier Kenwood model, this one sounds pretty decent.
Regards,

Hi,
I have good speakers in my car and just planning to change the HU that is compatible with roof fixed LCD screen. It appears that DVD HUs just come with in-built LCD screen and would obviously cost high. Im not looking for any fancy HU but need a unit that can support Divx/Xvid format vedios from USB/DVD. I would like some suggestions before i go ahead and buy the double din players. Im just looking for a single din HU that supports maximum formats of A/V, It must have USB support and need not have a motorized LCD screen. Do we have any such HUs available at all?

There are 1DIN HUs from JVC - KD-DV5605/5606, and the costlier KD-AVX55/77, which have a video out that is connected to an external LCD. The AV HUs from Pioneer are DVH-3390UB/4390UB. All these have USB and Aux-in on the front panel.

Check the formats and codecs in the specs - the range would be limited to the really popular ones. And, since this is not a PC, one cannot just download a codec and plug it in.

@DerAlte, Thankyou for the options that you have given me. I can stretch to 12 K, I can ditch the BT & 2 din if I have to (if it is mounting the cost for the sake of it). My concern was since I bought all the equipment without doing much thinking, I am stuck at this point. Here is what I have, the present configuration in my Corolla, on which I need to add;

OE HU in built (6 CD changer & tape player), this I want to change.
Already installed the following;
1. Pair of Polk Audio - DB651 - 61/2 Coaxial - 60 watts RMS. for the front.
2. Pair of Polk Audio - DB690 - 6x9 - 3 way - 100 watts RMS, for the rear.
Bought but not installed;
3. Pioneer - TS - W1208D4 - Sub, dual coil, 1400 watts MAX & 400watts NOMINAL (RMS?) output.

My Music: Soft Rock, Classic Rock (Bon Jovi, U2 etc), party rock/clubbing type music (David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas)with occasional bouts of hip hop and R&B, wife likes Bollywood.

Keeping this in mind, I am first going for a HU change, but need the amp/s also, please suggest a solution.

In that case go for a new Kenwood 7046BT or get the x994 (the Classifieds one) - you get everything that you wanted.

Hold on to the sub till you are able to mobilize funds to get an amp. At that time you will also need to reckon with new speaker wiring and power+RCA cables, plus some damping since you will connect the sub.

I was going through the Sony India website and came across their Digital Media player series. The Model DSX-S100 : Digital Media Players : In-Car Entertainment : Sony India looks interesting. It's got a slot to keep my ipod inside the Head Unit. Is this being offered by any other brand? I seem to be liking this feature. Its got a reminder feature too, in case one forgets the ipod inside. Any reviews on this model?
