A little showoff.
A comparison of old and new amplifier, almost half the size.

Got the amplifier for 14.5k.
Installed it yesterday night. initially i was disappointed with the output as it was considerably low in comparison to the older one but latter found it was a setting issue in pc.
Now it rocks and i am amazed by the power of this punny little thing.
More than enough for my kind of use. Also the noise which i had has gone now, mostly must have gone due to the relocation.
i have not yet connected the rear speakers as it is broken.have already disassembled it and converted it to components but thinking what to do about crossovers.
bass remote is also to be installed , too lazy to open up the panels. when the optical cable comes i will lay it down.
install picture.

Thanks for your response.

The confusion regarding the Touchscreen's capability arose because my old HP tablet doesn't recognize finger touch and invariably requires the special stylus (magnetic, I guess) very much like a digitizer pad. I hope Mileap is not crippled in that way.

1. How to mount it conveniently at hand (which car?)
2. How to power it from 12V line in the car, maybe from the cig lighter (you need to physically look at the AC converter to find out it's output voltage, then get a suitable DC-DC converter, or get a car inverter)
I was amazed by the price as well but couldn't find any catch in the offer. Further, I haven't come across any totally negative review on the Net about this particular model and most users (netsurfers/students)are happy with it.

I am considering it for my Aveo 1.4 which comes with a standard double-DIN slot. My main uses will be music (need to relocate my existing single DIN Kenwood HU or just buy an amplifier - I am not a huge music buff), and navigation (by buying a separate GPS receiver).

The thing is I would prefer to tamper as litle as I can with the MiLeap so am open to suggestions!

@itwasntme, would you want to start another thread? We would be wantonly trespassing on @gigy's thread otherwise!

The MiLeap is too oddly sized to consider the 2DIN space. The display bezel is just too big. Even the front to back (depth) dimension is too large to think of a drawer like arrangement in the 2DIN space, where the MiLeap could be stowed / mounted transversely.

Your only hope is monitor mounts like these, especially the goose neck ones that will mount on a seat bolt of the passenger seat and can be bent away when not in use. A bracket on top of this could secure the MiLeap for normal use. All the wiring needed could then be run up the side of the gooseneck and held in place neatly with tie straps. When you want to carry away the MiLeap (for safety), you would be able to just unplug all the plugs and jacks (power, USB, audio) and just take it away. It is a convenient way to adjust its placement to your convenience.

Great advice, DerAlte! I was hoping for something exactly as described by you as I am not very technical minded and most of the DIY discussions have gone at a tangent :-) The PlugnPlay method sounds best and I can simply unplug and take the unit away.

Will certainly start a thread as soon as I chose between spending 15k for alloys or the carputer :-(

I am only in planning stage and doing some research on the same. Just posted em for your opinions. Will put up details once things are finalised at my end. I am doing it in collaboration with my friend.

Whats the plan with gsm antenna?
Have you got quote for the components?
Avoid converters for laptop hard disk and go for sata with lock or solid state DOM with good read/write speeds.
Which motherboard you are planning to use?
I am not as knowledgeable as you are in this field of computers and electricals. I am just googleing around to find more info and also going through thread of yours to learn some stuff before putting money to it. If every thing goes well i should be ordering for the components by August second week.

I am going to Kuwait for 10 days in between . So i ll have to plan things after i am back by mid of August. Will keep you all posted.

Your points noted. Planning to buy DC-DC converter from iride as you suggest.

Was thinking if i can use the GSM antenna to increase reception of mobile for net connecting using the same in the Carputer. That s because in Kerala we have bad reception for signals of all networks.

Use of the HCL leaptop is a good option in the price it is available now. more good for chauffeur driven type where it can sit nicely behind driver seat. you got to give it power, audio and gps connection only. brackets for this is readily available. for front install little innovation of mounting will be required to give neat look.

My 6x9 split out. midbass is already installed back the tweeters are yet to go for want of how to mount it. plan to use metal paper clip glued behind it. if i could get a pair of crossovers it will be better stagged.

I got this frame (ABS PLASTIC FRAME 629-701-Black) from bybyte.com with great expectation to make my carputer one single double unit but it went to become a total loss. the frame dosen't fit the lcd model IRV-070BY from iride. it is short by 2mm in height. in the process i have now damaged the connector on the lcd and its ribbon as well. after putting it back into its default case i have only white display, so time for new lcd.

The iride lcd panel is made by hitachi.

Oh no.. Check with Sheldon if he has a spare connector and ribbon from a broken LCD. He is in Mumbai as well.

No point getting a new LCD just because the old one needs some spare parts.

Wouldn't hurt asking sheldon for a 2 DIN frame solution. I believe he does them. He used to stock a kitted LCD with swift 2DIN console.

Could you please throw some light on the brackets available to hold the HCL leaptop?

I saw the leaptop in Croma and seems like a good buy for the price and for basic carputer use. But it is out of stock since last 5 days. I guess @15K, there are lots of takers for the HCL Leaptop.

Has anyone opened up the Leaptop to see if the touchscreen is bonded to LCD or just a cheap overlay? I guess it is an India specific model and information about it is scarce.
