Default Cutting open a bass tube?

I have a JBL 12" base tube with me,it wont fit in the alto boot, since there is a tray on top with the 6x9s ..an option is to put the 6x9s in boxes by the sides of the boot. and put the tube as it is,or cut open the base tube and install the woofer in a box.the tube seems to be sealed and it think the only option is to CUT it open? can i get away without destroying the tube ?

Maybe you could think of mounting the 6x9's in the quarter-glass area - search, there is a thread in the Show Off and Sound Off section. Then you can keep the sub tube as it is and not have to do a risky dissection.

The tube is not sealed. The 12" woofer is covered with a grill that is tightly fixed into the lip of the tube.
Pull the grill out using some force and some screwdrivers and you will expose 8 screws holding the woofer to the tube. Unscrew those and unclip the wires from the terminals and Navin is your uncle.

You can remove the grille by inserting a screwdriver where the grille sits on the enclosure & prying it out by using a little force. I recently had to do this & the grill came out without any problem.

thanks for the inputs,
decided to presently let the tube be in the boot, will dump the tray holding the 6x9 and instead mount them on the boot door. will try via different placements/putting sub in a box later as the days progress.

Be careful Arpan the VXi has rear wiper & placing the 6X9 might damage the wiper set
