Default Upgrade time

Yesterday i got a cool deal on Infinity reference 6923i, so got them as my rear fills and also Got the front doors damped.

The 6x9's were fitted without any modification and with the stock grill.

I missed to take pictures of the 6x9's before fitting the grill/pad and the right door after damping

The right door was damped pretty well than this one, we had a shortage of damping material when we did the left door.

Here's a look of rear (after the install)

The installer did a very nice & clean job..

Many had already told me to go for damping, but i did not know what change that was going to make. But now i can say, damping as the one of most important part of the install. There is quite a lot of diffrence after the damping was done. I'm planning to get more of the damping material and complete the left door and the boot. I got the damping material from Bass&trouble with the help of nitrous. The sound stage has improved after all this, i listened to this only for an hour..would need to listen to this for a while for a review.

Please don't let him anywhere near the tuning.

Guys, Need your advice!!

How good would be the Harman/Kardon CA470(India JBL) when compared to the JBL GTO1004 (India JBL). Can some one tell me the positives of the CA470.

I have not heard about the Harman/Kardpm CA 470 before.
I have been using the JBL GTO 1004 .
It is a successor to the Mighty Famous JBL 75.4 which sold like hot cakes.
The 1004 is pretty good and does the job pretty well.
You can go ahead and buy it without any problems.

Congrats, nice install. Yes damping does make a lot of difference, i also need to get it done just waiting for the moolah.
So in your earlier post you said something about upgrading your sub, where's the upgrade.
Lastly, are you thinking about changing your present gto1004 amp to the harman one. Why not keep the gto to power the front and rear speakers and get a good mono or 2 channel bridgable amp to power the sub.

Yesterday I was talking to a friend who asked me the same question. At that time I had not really investigated the new HK amps. Even now I have not yet got the schematic of the 470 (only the 1004).

I have however used the HK 260. In the mids 80s my boss bought an Acura Legend and wanted a good stereo. So I built a streo for his car using 3 HK 260s mated to MBQ speakers and subwoofer. The amp was a nice one (however it was soon upgraded to precision power).

That said I would expect HK 470 to be a step up from the 1004. It should be. It costs more. Harman Intl seems to have resurrected the HK brand for car audio again. This way it can straddle many segments.

The circuit topology might be same or similar but what I would expect the 470 to have (aside from the nicer aesthetics) is (a) better protection (b) better quality of parts esp the passive components and (c) tighter QC during production compared to the 1004.

Expect the HK470 and it's big brothers to feature in Harman's next gen competition cars along with Lexicon and JBL's MS8.

The CA470 is a lovely amplifier with a completely different topology and platform from the 1004.
It is more expensive and is aimed at purists.

I Already have the GTO1004, But i'm getting a nice deal on the the Harman kardon CA470. It is said to be a more SQ amp than the 1004. I have also bought a pair of Infinity kappa 6X9 today, and thinking of powering all the speakers thru the CA470. I want to know if it's really worth the change?
