Even I dont think the 2005 Toyota Corolla can read mp3 discs. If you enter an invalid disc, the symptoms are exactly as you specify - it will behave like it's reading it like a regular audio disc, and show playback but there will be no audio. Easiest way to ascertain this is to look for mp3 written on the face of the head unit. If there's no mention, it isnt mp3 compatible.

Why not just check the manual too far as i know until last year they only came with ACD capable systems. HOWEVER i will check with a friend in toyota and get back.

AutoIndia.com -Toyota: Find reviews of Toyota by India's best auto writers at AutoIndia

doesnt mention an mp3 player.
everyone's right. no mp3 player, just a normal music player. if it plays audio cds well, then its working fine.

The newer 2006 versions and up come with the mp3 player. toyota could have done some serious reconsideration on their stock head units. only bass and treble settings. ABSOLUTELY nothing else. would suggest you go in for a jvc 705 double din as its vfm and looks great in the corolla.
