i liked it. It's not that you upgrade because you don't like stuff. There's something better coming.

You know Navin, I said the exact same thing to him - what was the need to sell the amp/HU before the new stuff came in?

But Frank is like that only I guess. He likes to intentionally abstain from good things for a while, so that the thrill of enjoying them later on gets multiplied.

Oh these docs are crazy I think!

thing is, im on a restricted budget. highly restricted at that! need to sell the present stuff so i can pay the bills for the new stuff. im still studying, and saving etc. so it becomes difficult to manage. the sacrifice would be well worth it, so I can stay without music for a month, anticipating how it would be after a month. kat jaata hai

i do think this is crazy, and this story of chopping and changing is going to end soon (no time, definitely no money!)
i am dead sure this will be the Thing! Even if its not, I would not have the time, patience and money to get something new. My Post Graduation starts in June. And the honeymoon is O-V-U-R over!

questions!
the 2 subs will be in place. but they have nothing to drive them. if they are going isobaric, then my gz 4 channel amp is not enough to drive them (220W @ 4 ohm bridged only)
the subs are rated @ 300W rms, so i would like to get a CLASS AB (not class D) mono that does atleast 600*1 @ 2 ohms. budget is not decided yet, but i have a limitation here. dont want to spend a bomb. as of now, i am thinking about the jbl gto7001.
any idea about how much it costs with a bill and warranty, and in grey?
any other suggestions? say below 15k?

220w will be OK just OK, i will say buy a good amp and forget about upgrading again and again.
15k for a class AB is lill less increase your budget.

and how is the Genesis Profile Sub in the classifieds by mr anish? it does 550W at 2 ohms. its kind of perfect for my requirements (except for the price)
but can i actually compare it the GTO7001? i mean, will the extra power from the JBL matter? I think it might.
and the genesis is class g while the 7001 is a class AB amp. im confused!

im not comparing the quality. just bothering about the power rating. whatsay? should i take the plunge?
budget will be stretched for the genny, for sure, but might turn out to be the final nail in the upgrades coffin. just didnt want to spend so much on something used, when im getting a brand new thing that does more power and comes with a warranty (jbl is not bad, when it comes to quality too, so no one can do the audio bank/ sound barrier argument here :-P ).

just asking :-)

Any particular reason for not getting a class D mono ?

I'd suggest the Kenwood 9104. Its got loads of power at an unbeatable price.

If you can extend the budget then go for Genny if not its either JBL 7001 or kenny 9104D

it is not a fair comparison, i will say buy genesis over jbl. and the difference power in not very big 150rms and genesis amp is rated @ 550 wrms but will surely do much more then that.

even i am thinking on the lines of the genesis.
waiting for the pictures. then will make the final verdict. so the final setup might look like this:

eclipse 7200
dls RA20 for the fronts
Genesis profile sub for the 2 subwoofers
no rear fills (since the eclipse is a dead head, and never needed the rear fills anyway)

PS: spoke to gunnu about the choice between the 7001 and the profile sub. he said its like comparing a brand new sx4 and a used boxster. lol. that seals it!

ok more questions:
the genesis profile sub has a maximum input sensitivity of 4v. now, my eclipse is known to put out 8V. will that make a difference?

question to Sam: the input sensitivity of the JBL GTO7001 is not mentioned anywhere. Can you give us a range?

its is 4v compatible and will easily take up to 8v preout

even the series III amps are rated as 4v preout compatible
