KMD has started ripping people. He is asking for close to 70 bucks to the dollar. Success has got to him also it seems.

There is a Steering wheel remote from the Clarion which will work with the head unit, it's the RCB-147-600.
You can look for details here along with other accessories Clarion Singapore | Accessory

I had asked for an quote from KMD for an amplifier which cost about 185$ and got a quote for Rs.13000 or so, which is good as it includes shipping, customs and his commission and comfortably getting your item home delivered.

I wonder why is he charging more for the headunit.

There is a Clarion steering remote that St. Anger has in his car. Nothing fancy, but does the job.

Else, you can go for the TS-99/MPR-999 Universal learning Remote.

But frankly, I dont find the need for the steering remote. SlideTrak is as good as a remote, once you have your hands set. And my HU is installed right above the gear knob and I have gotten used to the SlideTrak very well.

Also, the standard remote is hardly of use (for me) since it doesnt allow folder browsing

EDIT - The one that I was mentioning (St. Anger's car) is the same one whose pic Invinsible has posted.

EDIT 2 - You can get this above mentioned remote from this ebay seller (eBay.com.sg: STEERING WHEEL REMOTE CONTROL CLARION RCB-147 (item 360158590879 end time Jun 27, 2009 07:29:45 SGT)). It will cost GBP 30 shipped to India (INR 2,400). Frank had ordered his MPR-999 from him too.

Or ask Ramie 2400 to order it, shipping might be free (ok. very bad PJ)

Guys, here is the new development. I might travel to Singapore in a month's time. Now, Singapore is a free port, meaning anything you import in Singapore attracts no duty (well, anything except wine, cigarettes and cars/bikes). There's a GST tax of 7%, which applies only if the goods are worth $400 or above. So I am thinking of getting my shipment delivered to my friend in Singapore, and then picking it up on my way back.

PS: Does anyone want me to pick his box too? I can bring stuff worth Rs.25k back home- so it seems I can easily carry one extra.

PPS: My travel plan is still tentative. But I'll post again as soon as it is confirmed, and of course I'll order first myself as soon as it's confirmed

Why don't you check the availability and price of DXZ786 in Singapore itself? That's the APAC equivalent model of 785. It's about AUD410 in Australia and Baht11000 in Bangkok.

Then got for the MPR-999/TS-99 at around 2k. You wont find a Clarion/Universal steering remote at the price of a Pio steering remote anyway.

Frank Mehta. He owned the 9887 and also played around with my Clarion 785 for a long time.

That's Correct 786 is the same as the 785 and you should get it for a good price in Singapore. 6 years back when I was Singapore I was able to pick up a Alpine Headunit (don't exactly remember the model) after going through the Auto Accessory Shops for a good bargain price, which was almost half the cost of what it costed here in Bbay.

If you go through the first few pages in this thread there are some compared reviews on this. However, It would be great to hear from someone who's had experience with both.

Thanks DA- I have already asked my friend to call a couple of dealers and find out the price. But I don't want to push him to go bargain hunting for me- if he gets a good price on the phone that is comparable to SonicElectronix, then I can take the risk and do the bargain hunt when I am there.

But if the Singapore original price is way beyond the US/online price (the HU's original US price was some $300-400, online it's available for ~$200 including shipping)- then I'd rather hedge my risk and order it in advance, so that it reaches my friend by the time I'm there.
