@mustang, I sympathize with you! In Bangalore it is roughly the other way around- only 3 out of 11 are probably on even frequencies, which is far better.

When I was testing A2DP streaming with my ICE, I thought of using mobile phone's tuner and route it wirelessly to ICE using bluetooth. But it was such a flop idea, because to enable FM you have to insert a headset which is used as the antenna, and the moment I do that bluetooth gets disabled! Even if it had worked, still having to insert headset every time in itself would defeat the purpose of having a "builtin" FM.

Only way I can think of now it to do some hardware/software hack. Something like bypass surgery that many people attempt in order to get pre-out signals or add aux-in functionality to their HUs. Once it is tried on somebody's unit, mine can follow

My bad, Immortalz!

I'm almost on the verge of taking the clarion plunge. Btw, will I need to order a harness adapter too?

Wow talk about getting FLAMED!

Well this might come as a shock here, but the first part of my post was sincere, and I really wanted to know how many people with a 785 were interested in FM.

The second was a joke!!! Trust me, I know how many people still listen to the radio, even though I would probably inject myself with 10CCs of air or ingest 10DL of pure ethanol prior to listening to the same!

But seriously if FM was such a worry, and you guys definitely knew about this problem before you purchased, why buy the 785 and then complain? Why not the 786 or buy any other made for Asia player?

Ok guys take a chill pill regarding the radio. I only listen to radio for a few secs when i eject a disc from HU

I got to check out the Clarion 785 today here is what i feel.

Pros:
- Price
- Features TA / Active / USB
- Variable illumination

Cons:
- Menus
- Looks
- Buttons
- Sidetrack

VFM HU and it was complimenting the equipment pretty good.

Yes, I had bought a separate Nokia bluetooth kit. It supports usual handsfree call handling, A2DP music streaming and a wired aux-in as well.

As I mentioned before, don't view it as a complaint. We are merely discussing about pros and cons of our purchase.

Regarding me personally, don't want to pay double the amount just for 2-3 additional FM channels. Indirectly saving some money to be paid to govt and additional distributors/dealers. If I keep the budget same, then I would rather loose 2-3 FM channels instead of TA/USB/SQ etc.

If it was gifted to me by somebody (say you!) then I would not have any right to talk about cons. Like that hindi saying- daan ki bachadi ke daat nahi ginte.

Menus- agreed, it could be better, especially remote.
Looks are subjective, I liked the sober look like many others.
Buttons and Slidetrack looks like an advantage to me. It has a very good tactile feel, and once used to it one can operate it almost without having to "look" at it, dismissing the need for a steering remote.

I completely agree, sidetrack is actually very nifty to use. Menu's yes they could have been better but with this HU I dont change as much settings as I used to my earlier pio

I agree looks are subjective. Regarding buttons and sidetrack i felt build could have been better. I think i had high expectations from the unit as everyone here said build is very good.

SQ / features wise HU is very good.

Would i suggest this hu ? Yes i will if anyone is looking for a VFM HU.
Would i buy it ? Not sure, i feel spending 12k (KMD route) on this HU is not as VFM option for me considering i can get P80 for around 17K.
