Thanks Panky and Techno, I'd be more comfortable with the glovebox option as I'm looking to add a portable USB HDD (160GB). And this is my second concern- how well will an HDD take to big shocks in a car (monsoons = big craters and potholes on Delhi roads).

That's a great idea to have Port. HDD. The best I can think of to protect it from shocks, you could make a cover for it and fix it in your glovebox with help of velcroy. That should keep it shock-free.

Or just enclose the HDD with 0.5 inch thick foam all over. Will provide some resistance to shocks.

Today i did the activity of resetting the Verna's ECU. Removed the negative terminal from the battery, drained the current by pressing the brake pedal and tightened the terminal back after 15 minutes.
Switched on the Clarion, and to my surprise all settings on the HU (TA, EQ, etc) except the clock were intact & unchanged. Another feature where the Clarion excels.

Didn't it ask once again to choose speaker configuration (normal, 2-way, 3-way) as it does when powered initially?

You may buy a Solid State hard disk.
It will be expensive but well worth it.

Modern equipments/devices use a button cell to keep the settings saved even if main power is removed. These cells just help "EEPROM Chip" to keep the settings and clock saved.

There should be a "RESET" button or Key combo if you need the HU to get back to factory settings.

Not really, mine did reset when I gave it for service.

Probably there is some time till which it retains this settings through caps & not a button cell.

Technocrat, then let me repeat my question, did it show speaker configuration option in your case?

@Techno: Yes, maybe the settings are retained for some time only after plugging out the power source. In my case the clock time was found to be retarded by 25 minutes or so. But all other settings were the same.

@ghpk: Dont forget that custom duty will only add to the cost.
