I just had a second phase of my ICE up-gradation. According to Greenhorns suggestion I opted for rear 6x9 JBL 947. And after that I can see unimaginable improvement in my overall music quality. Now I have very very good tight bass. It is much much above my expectations. Thanks Greenhorn.

And I can see how well stock head unit drive these 947s. Clarion head units has 25w rms power while others have 17w rms output. Pioneer has 22w rms output.

It really sounds awesome. Now I am very very happy for my entertainment system in my car.

I would have gotten the 938, if you are happy with the 947, so be it :P

btw, while comparing RMS power, you need to check the THD at which the power is rated at. 17W RMS at 1% THD would sound far better than 22W @ 10% THD!

Hello Gurus and Friends,

One of my friend also owns Indica Vista Saffire Terra and he is interested in OEM Head Unit. He is insisting me to sell my OEM Clarion Head Unit. I told him drawbacks but he said he is not music fan so he need very basic system. And he wants to buy OEM Clarion from me because it gels with interior perfectly.

He offered me Rs.4k which I think is a good(Infact the best) deal for this HU. I want to buy Pioneer DEH 5050. What would you suggest? Go or No Go?

sushant, if you are upgrading, might as well get a good HU. SQ wise, the 5050 is only a marginal improvement over the stock HU. If you want more features, maybe. Otherwise, go for a kenwood/Alpine

Thanks Greenhorn for reply. Please suggest me good head unit for the price range Rs.5k to 6k(Without B & W). I need good sound quality.

Right now as you know I have JBL GT5-S265c components in front and GTO947 ovals in rear. I am planning for Amplifier and Sub in next month.

Frankly, nothing in that price range which can be considered an upgrade. If you are serious, you'll need to spend at least 7~10k on a good HU. else stick with the stock HU - i believe it has enough pre outs, and go ahead with the rest of your system expansion

Ok. If I extend my budget to around 8k. Then what do you think, which is the head unit I should go for? Thanks in advance .

Clarion is a good unit and I think may be even better the Pioneer 5050 so why don't you invest in amplifier instead of HU upgrade ?

Thanks amitk26 and greenhorn. I think I should refrain myself from selling this unit. Instead I will divert this money to amplifier.

thought of Selling this Head Unit came due to following points...
1) It is less on features. Like List of songs etc
2) No Sub control for future upgrade
3) No next folder/album button on remote
4) Takes little time to read USB
5) And the overall output I was getting was not that much good on ear. It was like Head Unit was not providing power to speakers. Clipping was happening.

As the offer was good then I tempted to sell this unit. As you said this HU is better in sound quality then I thought I could live with this HU with all above four drawbacks. and 5th drawback needs a good amplifier which I am going to fit soon. Any HU will need amplifier for the speaker setup I have I think.

Thanks for your suggestion. Now next question . Which amplifier I should go for? I am thinking of Kenwood 8401.

If i were you, I'd screw the sub, sell the HU to your friend, buy an alpine HU with at least two pre outs for 10~12k , buy a 4 ch amp for 6~7k and call it a day

Not exactly a VFM upgrade, and I wouldn't recommend it to most people, but this is what I would do

Hey, I accidentally stumbled on this thread but this is exactly something that I have been searching since quite some time. I am also planning to change my speaker system since quite some time. I will be following your route for the front speakers. However I would be glad if you could suggest something that will go in the doors at the rear also. There's no way I can put speakers on the parcel tray. Rest assured my kid will have a new toy at the back to play (& subsequently break). Also I am on a slightly tight budget so please suggest appropriately. Thanks in advance to one & all.

Budget - Between 5 to 10K. Choice of music - Self - English pop & rock. Wife - Hindi. Parents - Anything till the bass is really good. However we all love a good thump from our system
My complaint is the same as of Sushant - A lack of good thump from the existing speakers. Suggestions please.

swap out the stock speakers with 6.5" comps up front, and coax of the same size in the back. while the JBL GTO is the default recommend, would strongly suggest you listen to the other alternatives.
