Default Speed just got sound

Have been toying with the idea of iceing the elantra for the last 6 months. Lack of funds and time was impeding the upgrade. Seeing the phantom face and the hi energy components sitting idle in the cupboard was making life miserable. Finally last week decided to take the plunge.

Situation:

Elantra ice : stock.
Scorpio ice: 7894 head unit, JL 6450 amp , Alpine type R components, polk db rear fills and JL 10" sub.

Given that my driver drove the scorp all the time, and lack of luggage space making long trips irritating, decided to lose the sub from the scorp. Swapped the 4x6 in the rear with a 6x9, and the scorp was all set.

Now I have all that i needed for the elantra

The material:

Head Unit : Alpine 7998 - Phantom face
Speakers: Hertz Hi Energy Components, 6.5" for the front and 5.5" for the rear
Amp: My trusted JL 6450
Sub: The JL 10W08

Decided to go all Scosche on the cables.

The ARTIST: Venu @ TMC electronics
Started work at 8:00 pm on tuesday with a midnight deadline , coz we had a drive to cochin in the morning. At 9:30 realize that the efx RCAs that we had was a 3 cable set and not a 3 pair set. Go figure.

This is when Venu pulls a fast one on me.

The RCAs and the speaker cables get upgraded to Connection Audison..

We do a rapid install interrupted by a couple of cops who wanted to shut us down, anyways we have the setup connected and untuned at 3:00 am.

Drive to cochin was nice with return even more eventful with Ripper's blown brake pads.

What did the car sound like? Great detail, but no oomph..

Returned back from Cochin and went straight back to Venu. Menage a' trois beckoned. Hi energy three ways ..

Now the million dollar question, where do we mount the midranges????

Here..

You see the last 2 pics. These are fibreglass pods made to hold the midranges.

that is some serious equipment in your car!
congratulations. the phantom face is still considered by many to be one of the best alpine has produced.
hertz 3 way: is there enough power from the amplifier for the front AND rear stage as well as the sub???? are you doing justice to all the speakers with just one amplifier (even though it looks like a 6 channel amp)?
what are the specs of the speakers and power output of the amp?

the sub: JL makes really really top notch subs. would love to listen to it!

good work, and hope you enjoy the music.
dont take my questions seriously, they will just egg you on to make more and more upgrades. lol.
cheers!

The amp is a 75 watts per channel, 6 channel amp. The sub section is a 180 watts bridged.

Is the setup musical , you bet your @$$ it is. Is it powerful , no. The Hi energies need 200 watts per channel for them to perform at their best. will try that someday too

the mid range pods are good but they should have been placed on the dash near the a/b piller, and as frank asked the amp produces 75x6 that is lill less for the front stage or are you using them active.

but the overall install in quiet nicely done

Why not do one thing.
Give more power to the fronts and add another amp for the sub.
Just a thought.
You could give the Fronts bridged power ie run them off 4 channels bridged into 2. Run the rears of the remaining 2 channels
And Add another amp. Maybe a mono for the JL Sub

P.S Congrats on the setup.

Wow this is surely an unusual setup, Congrats

Could some one explain why the midrange is placed the way it has been placed? Wasnt there a better (concealed/non protruding?) way to put them?

Great setup, Vijay! I had been wondering where the mids and the tweets had been placed, but now I have the answer. I'd also have preferred a Dash+A-Pillar corner install for the mids & tweets, but then there would have been a bit of loss of visibility I guess. Since you drive that car the way it was meant to be driven, this was perhaps a better idea

Could you post pics from inside the car, shooting from the rear seat, with the front doors closed please (if that's not too much trouble).

If you do plan to upgrade, a more powerful amp for the fronts, or a "chotta" 2-ch amp for the rears with the amp bridging 2 chs (per side) to power the fronts would be nice. As you know, those 3-ways deserve more power

Great upgrade Vijay. I've experienced the 'speed' part all to well!! Need an audition next time! Even I was confused over the placement of the 3 ways. Does the speaker pod get in the way of things? Pls post better pix!
