Default During an Eclipse, the Swift tends to Infinity

4 months into the car ownership and I have finally upgraded the ICE. I was managing well with the stock setup and was looking more at performance upgrades. But ever since the Odometer conked out, I dint want venture into too much of warranty-voiding territories.

The following is the current setup
HU - Eclipse 5100 with iPod adapter
Comps - Infinity 60.9 Kappa
Amp - Infinity 475a
Sub - Polk Momo MM2084 8" with Polk enclosure
Wiring - JBL, E2 and some other stuff I don't remember the names

Installation was done at GP Road, Chennai. Hazaar thanks to Sathee46 and nitrous

Like Sathee, I wanted to keep stuff within the same family. Felt the Swift doesn't really require the HK amps. Hence settled for Infinity.

The Polk Momo actually sounds good. The 8" sub does it job and does it well. Anyways I like the way it sounds. Plus I was not keen on a 10 or 12" sub since I wanted to utilise the boot to the max. Anyways, lets see how things pan out.

I am still getting used to the HU, and the non-steering controls. The HU needs to be tuned properly. And the damn car needs to be DAMPED! At volume levels of 30+ on the HU, the entire rear panel vibrates, and so do the OVRMs. Not sure how to fix these now. Thats when I realised that the foam-based damping that was done by Satya was a total waste!!

Here are a few pics. Will take daylight pics sometime over the next few days.

Once again, many thanks to Sathee46 for helping me out throughout the whole installation process.

Cheers!

Good choice of equipment, its good to hear the you are enjoying it.
Get the front doors and the boot lid damped will help to cut down the vibration.

Thanks a lot guys for the comments. Regarding the performance of the Polk, the initial impressions are good. I've heard Sathee's 12" ID and found that such a sub would have been an overkill, esp for the type of music that I hear (Classic/70s Rock/Metal).

The initial plan was not to have a sub. But the tiny 8" sub looked cute and the Polk enclosure meant I need not bother about MDF, cutting, drilling and all that jazz. Lets see how the setup performs over a long run. I guess the power fed to the sub is 150. Not sure

Prices
Eclipse 5100 incl iPod adapter - 13000 (US)
60.9 Kappa - 7100 (US)
475a - 13100 (B&W)
8" Sub incl Polk enclosure - 6100 (B&W)
Wiring/MDF Spacers/Installation/Fascia - 6000

Cheers!

Congrats Anil, the 8" Sub really rocks the car (I envy you here). The infintiy gives out 190W RMS to the sub, the sub is rated 200W RMS. Once you damp the car it would sound much better.

Congrats, Anil! That's all good stuff in there.

Do get the doors and the hatch damped when you're in Bangalore next: The music will sound even better. Enjoy!
